A welcome return for the 24 enthusiastic golfers to our home Bogor side – the beautiful and dangerous Jagorawi Golf Club
We played the New Course which is longer, and more open than the Old Course but still offers some very challenging holes. The sun was smiling and the course was in good condition, so a perfect day was anticipated.
With its tight fairways and minefields of white stakes, just the word “Jagorawi” raises blood pressure in even the most hardened weekday golfer. Group 2 off of hole ten (Nick, John, Dave “Big Daddy”, and Mike) faced the downward sloping hard dogleg left par 5 like they were John Snow and the Army of the North facing a legion of White Walkers.
They were fearless and had the right stuff (including beer) to take on the Jagorawi challenge. Off the tee, Nick was hitting monster drives all day. Mike never wavered when hitting into trouble and made impressive recovery shots throughout the day. Big Daddy’s consistently powered his 3-wood onto the greens and John’s 20 meter chip into the hole brought the accolades he constantly seeks on and off the course. While there were errant arrows shot by all, the group had specular day and managed not to drown in the pool afterwards.
A late change of starting holes for the group comprising Andy Coop , James Bristow , Randy and Rohit added some extra tension but all four were away well off the 10th , particularly Rohit who started with three pars .
Alas the tough 12th and 13th holes took their toll on all players and it was only really Andy C who managed the course to card a very steady 88 , earning 2nd spot on the day . The OBs were the downfall of the group with too many double pars but at least the putting stats on the quick greens were quite respectable at 33,34,36 and 36 for James , Randy , Rohit and Andy respectively.
Tough day at the office for Vinay and Priyaji as they both found it difficult to maintain a consistent game. Jagorawi’s narrow fairways and intimidating layout continued to taunt them throughout the game as ball searching continued. Meanwhile, Audie displayed a consistent game navigating through the course. Tarlok on the other hand displayed mastery throughout the game, chipping in twice to collect a couple of birdies. His ability to navigate through the course with a consistent and accurate display of stroke play got him the title “Jagorawi Juggernaut”.
Starting on Hole#16, the New Course’s iconic Par 5, the flight of: Christophe Beau, Imran and TPS and hosted by JAWS Admin Simon Reynolds. Christophe got off to a flyer hitting a towering 5 wood down the right side of the fairways and ending in the first cut. On a busy day at JGCC we were keen to set off from the busy clubhouse area and into the jungle to tackle the Thomson, Wolveridge and Perret championship layout.
Thanks to a new Green Roller the New Course greens were running really pure at around 9.5 and Reynolds drained a lengthy Par Putt on the first green from about 30 ft to save an unlikely sandy par having driven into a fairway bunker. This was followed by a lip out birdie attempt from 50 ft on the second green, the greens were ‘pure’. Imran proceeded on putting together a round of steady pars and bogey’s keeping the ball in play and scrambling pars the ideal strategy for this tricky golf course. As the midday sun rose overhead the greens got faster and so did the temperature, as Simon ripped his Drive on Hole#4 250m up the hill to secure longest drive but then burnt a whole in his scorecard with a triple bogey 6 on a par 3, hole 5. With TPS and Christophe also a little erratic off the tee Imran a.k.a ‘Steady Eddy’ continued to find the fairways and greens scoring par and bogeys consistently and was rewarded with a Nett 72 and second place overall in the event.
Nonetheless for Imrans fellow musketeers, Golf was the winner today with plenty of fun under the sun.Another group staring on hole 10, comprised of, Chris, Arnold, Christine and Sari.
Chris made an excellent start with a birdie on the first hole but although playing some good golf, had too many OB’s ,which inevitably cost him. Sari started off well, with some consistent early holes, however every hole at Jagorawi is challenging and Sari soon found out that you need to play consistently for 18 holes.
Christine played with a smile all day and was consistent throughout ending with a respectful Net 73 and was the lowest putts winner. Arnold’s highlight of the day was his driving. He played well in patches but his score could have been much lower with more accurate putting. Overall, a fun day out !
The final group to tee off ,after finally moving to tee 10, started with a mixed bag for all the 4 players Subhash , Aiden , The Flying Finn and Divya.
It was a treat to watch Subhash’s touch on the short game (he was a 6 handicap and will be back there soon from the looks of it) and Aidens booming drive, not to forget the Flying Finns streak of long kapaws and a few choice words.
All in all a great round albeit with mixed scores but great company.
Well done everyone for a ‘Super Day’ out! It was a very close event today with only 2 shots separating first and fourth. The overall winner was Tarlok with a Gross 84 and Net 71. Hot on his heels in joint second place were Andy Coop, Gross 88, Net 72 and Imran Gross 87, Net 72.
The lowest putts went to Christine and Simon Reynolds took the longest drive. Nick Goodwin was the nearest to the pin on hole 11 and the 2 free vouchers for Bogor Raya were won by Mike Lewis and John Packer.
Thank you again Jagorawi , Arron , Zac, Mba Lena and the full team for taking such good care of us.
Next up is the beautiful Rancamaya on the 26th May 2020, see you there !!
