Friday 1st October 2021
– Harvey Penick
A ‘record breaking’ 42 JAWS Sharks, the biggest single game turnout to date, travelled North up the Toll Road towards the Airport, turning left at Soewarna Business Park towards Cengkareng Golf Club for the JAWS Friday 1st October noon game and its infamous frozen margiritas to kick start the weekend. A combination of the all in one golfers card, great service in the clubhouse, fun caddies and a great walking course is proving to be a winning combination as Cengks is becoming the hottest public golf course in Jabodetabek, and rightly so!
Thanks to all JAWS players for using the mygolf2u for signing up to this weeks game, this is the ‘new normal’ for JAWS games moving forwards: players first sign up for each game via the app, then proceed to input their scores for the round live or after the round into the app. There is still some issues with handicaps, and rest assured we will continue to input all JAWS scores into the Jakarta E-Handicap system and these handicaps will be used until January 2022. Some may have noticed their handicaps were 42-43! Please do not be offended, players with less then 5 scores will be automatically assigned a high handicap. The mygolf2u admins have stated that a minimum of 5 scores are needed for a handicap and 20 scores needed advised for an ‘accurate’ handicap. JAWS games will be posted immediately on a weekly basis so the Tuesday and Friday games will be open for sign ups on Saturday – Sunday at the latest weekly. For popular courses like Cengkareng there maybe limited slots available so sign up quick to avoid dissapointment.
The Friday round witnesses some sharp scoring with many players shooting nett par or lower with 5 JAWS players shooting 69 or below and the spotlights was on the two hot matchups in the JAWS MP event which saw: Firman (Best Nett I) progressing into Round 4 of the matchplay with a compreshensive 3 & 2 win over Wahyudi. Willi G (Best Nett II) had to bring his A game on route to defeating Iris (many people’s favourite for the 2021 MP crown) who was a little rattled with a not so bad Nett 70 herself. Congratulations to both Sharks who progress into the quarterfinals of the 2021 VIA.COM JAWS Matchplay.
Great to see a wide mix of handicaps playing on a JAWS gameday and some low handicappers in Kohilfan (hdcp 6) and JAWS Vice-Captain Gaurav Shirke (hdcp 11) propping up the leaderboard with a pair of nett 69’s and a warm welcome back to Widyanto sandwiched in a tie for Best Nett II with an impresive Nett 68.
It was clear that the record JAWS group, great course, conditions and that Friday feeling as many stayed back to welcome in the weekend over a few signature frozen margiritas at Mulligan’s Bar and a big thanks to the Cengkareng Management and two kind JAWS members who managed to secure an extra flight for the game to accomodate the players who were first on the waiting list above the 10 flights booked, the more the merrier.
Congratulations to the Winners:
- Best Net I: Firman – Nett 67
- Best Nett II tied: Willi G – Nett 68
- Best Nett II tied: Widyanto – Nett 68
- Best Nett III tied: Gaurav Shirke – Nett 69
- Best Nett III tied: Kholifan – Nett 69
The ‘New Normal’:
Please not that moving forwards, to sign up for JAWS games will be 100% on the mygolf2u app only. We will continue to use our traditional scoring method at games for the time being with one scorer per flight recording the scores of all players in the flight, but all players are advised to start familiarizing themselves with the mygolf2u scoring system to input their scores live: hole by hole or after the game, to your preference. The JAWS admins will continue to submit all JAWS scores into the Jakarta E-Handicap Network. All these handicaps will be used during JAWS games. Our target is to be 100% reliant on the mygolf2u app for: sign ups, scoring and handicaps come January 2022.
