HISTORY – WORLD CUP 2024

2024 FINAL ROUND – 8th November 2024 – Friday @ Cengkerang , 12 noon tee off

Asia takes it again , with a hard fought match …

Congrats to Captain Bobby , Vice Captain Hitoshi and team Asia and Kudos to all the ROW Team and well fought Capt Tom and Vice Captain Simon

the final results stood at 72 for Asia vs 48 for ROW

SINGLES (ROUND 4 – 20 players each side-20 matches) total points = 40, 2 points per win , 1 for draw , 0 for loss (8th November)

In singles, each match features one player from each team. The player with the lower score on each hole wins that hole. If their scores are tied, the hole is halved.

Round Three, August 2024 – The History as it unfolded

The third round of the world cup saw some serious action from both teams !

Although ROW missed their captain Tom , Vice Simon took on the mantle to get a strong line up and Asia with a last minute scramble by Capt Bobby also put up a dominant team of 20 a side to battle as four-balls (each member of a two-man team plays his own ball, so four balls are in play on every hole).

The final scores after round 3 stood at

Asia – 48 points ROW – 32 Points

Thank you Stand in Captain Simon and Captain Bobby for a lovely day out !

But now the plot thickens ……

The last round which is to be played on 8th November 2024 , is leading both captains to rethink strategy as its SINGLES and 40 points to play for ! this can change the tide for either side

So its 20 games with 2 points each for a total of 40

Some basic maths , if ROW win 15 games out of the 20 ( at 14 games its a DRAW) …they are champions for 2024 …and Singles is a fickle friend !

For Asia how do they keep the Rising and motivated ROW team down and win a minimum of 7 games to win the world cup for year 2024 ?

GAME ON , with sledging , mind games and banter !

Round Two, 2024 – The History as it unfolded

As we head into the heart of 2024 , the second round of the world cup threw a spanner in the works !

After the second round ..

ASIA – 35 Points ROW -25 Points

a lovely day out …..

Thank you Captain Tom and Captain Bobby for a lovely day out !

FOUR-BALL (ROUND 3- 20 players each side-10 matches) total points = 20, 2 points per win , 1 for draw , 0 for loss (16th August)

In four-ball, each member of a two-man team plays his own ball, so four balls are in play on every hole.

Each team counts the lowest of its two scores on each hole, and the team whose player has the lowest score wins the hole.

If the low scores are tied, the hole is halved.

Earlier – Round one Scores – even

With both ASIA and ROW getting 20 points each , both captains now restart to think strategies towards success.

Awesome start to the 2024 World Cup both teams stand at 20 Points each after Round One

As Gaurav Shirke moves from the shores of Indonesia , please join us to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Asia Captain Gaurav Shirke and to carry the Asia legacy forward , please join us in welcoming the new leadership team for JAWS World Cup – Asia team

Bobby C – Takes on the role as Captain for Asia for the year 2024 and Hitoshi San – Takes on the role of Vice Captain for Asia for the year 2024 whilst Tom Grace continues to lead ROW as captain for 2024 with gusto, Simon Reynolds will be assisting Tom as the VC for ROW.

Next up is Round 4 on the 8th of November 2024

Some history for 2023, the season started with a bang this week at Emeralda GC with very close matches fought and ASIA finally taking 13 points and ROW taking 7 points …the winner was camaraderie and golf.

Some time for laughter and fun after hard fought battles.

SOME MORE HISTORY

Big thank you to Willi G the winning captain for 2022 for the ROW team and Pras S the captain for the Asia Team for managing the world cup in 2022

WORLD CUP 2022

Final Round – ‘Singles’: Cengkareng Golf Club, Friday 25th November

Team ROW Captain wisely kept with his spine of strong players who have been so consistent and dependable throughout the year: David Moore, Fernando, Greg White and welcomed back Teaching Pro Jamie Whenman who would battle Team Asia’s lowest handicap player Gaurav Shirke. The match turned out to be a very close encounter as they matched each other blow for blow right the way to the 18th hole finishing AS, a real Dog Fight!

In the end the win was secured comfortably with the ROW spine and 2022 MVP’s: Willi G, Fernando, Greg White and David Moore all winning their singles matches along with Roger Finnie who impressively beat TEESET 2022 Matchplay Champion Hitoshi Matsuyama, well played Roger. The draw from Jamie and Jens bringing home the 12 points, on the day; 5 wins and 2 draws.

Hats off to the 2022 MVP’S from TEAM ROW: Willi G, Fernando Gaggino, David Moore and Greg White all of whom won all three of their matches in fourball, foursomes and singles bringing home maximum points for TEAM ROW in this years event.

Congratulations to Team Captain Willi Goldschimdt and TEAM ROW the ETIHAD JAWS WORLD CUP 2022 Winners!

In the end was great to see ROW and ASIA players staying for drinks and having fun! No blood was shed and any scares quickly healed, golf, friendship and sportsmanship clearly the winners!

WORLD CUP 2021

11 Months after the opening World Cup encounter at Sentul Highlands for the opening Singles Round, the 2021 Singgasana World Cup was concluded at Cengkareng Golf Club on Friday 28th January with 20 players from Team Asia up against 20 Rest of the World players in singles match-play.

Incredibly after the opening three rounds of Singles, Foursomes and Four-ball, the scores were locked at 40 points a piece with a total of 40 points up for grab over 20 singles games in the Final Round, with the first team over 61 points declared the winners. Here is a recap of the first three rounds as a refresher:

The original date for the Fourth Round and singles was back in November but due to the second wave and Delta Variant of Covid and numerous lockdowns, restricting Golf Courses to host large groups of players, both Teams agreed on a date late January, after the Asian Team Captain had returned from a home visit abroad and completed his quarantine.

The Final round also saw another change with a location move to: Cengkareng Golf Club a very popular Golf Course amongst Jakarta’s golfers providing an ideal layout and great course conditions for the final round battle.

A big shout out to both teams Captains and VC’s for gathering their troops in time for the match. Never easy with people commitments on and off the course these days and the looming pandemic.

A big shout out to our events main sponsor Singgasana Hotel’s & Resorts whose Jakarta, central property the Sultan has been used by many JAWS players during re-entry and quarantine stays after returning form abroad, keep It up!

As predicted the Final Round and singles games produced another tight encounter with TEAM ASIA getting over the line for 62 points to win, with 22 points over ROW’s 18 points, nonetheless it went down to the wire. With Asia winning 9/20 matches and drawing 4 matches to ROW’s 7 wins from 20.

In the end Team Asia were crowned the winners on cue with a beautiful sunset that was enjoyed by Team Asia on the Top Deck overlooking the 18th Green. Bragging rights obtained for 2021 bring on the this years edition!

Congratulations to the Winners!!!!:

  • TEAM ASIA with a TOTAL SCORE OF 62 pts – 58 pts over TEAM REST OF THE WORLD

Under the Guidance and Captain of Gaurav Shirke and VC Pras Sutowo. Well played Gents! Unlucky ROW Captain Willie Goldschimdt and VC Chris Lever its fair to say you are disadvantaged in some respects as TEAM ASIA are playing on home soil.

Stay tuned and get ready for selection by your chosen captains in 2024. Can Team Asia retain the Cup that TEAM ROW will be so eager to win back!

Happy Golfing Sharks!
