Another trip to our challenging but scenic home –Jagorawi Golf Course was rewarded by perfect weather and great conditions. The 13 golfers were able to start on time thanks to the Jagorawi Management Team, Arron , Zac , Mba Lena and everyone else who were very helpful and accommodating as always.

With the older experienced Chris playing and two young stallions in Aleksi and Aidan, this group was destined to produce some fireworks.

Aleksi and Aidan started off with ‘Boom’, ‘Boom’ monster drives straight down the fairways and sometimes, reaching distances up to 280m.

Poor Chris was overawed by the youthfulness of the two younger guy’s firepower. Aidan started well and looked like he was heading for a really low score but then went into a bunker and struggled to get out.

This had an impact on the rest of his game and went on to score an average round. But look out! , this young man will soon be in the money some time soon. Meanwhile, Aleksi continued with his ‘Booming Drives’ but didn’t always make the fairways. His putting and short game however throughout was good and another golfer who is capable of a low score. Chris, who was mesmerized on the front nine, shot a respectful 46 on the back nine to claw back some respectability.

The second group off hole one comprised James , Murthy and Holger , who were not daunted by the booming drives of the preceding group of Aiden , Aleksi and Chris , and managed to calm the first tee jangles and all advance 200 m + down the fairway.

Murthy had a solid round, which secured 2nd place including a text book birdie on 8 and an impressive par on the tough 13 th , which secured a worthy second place .

Three OBs for James ( he wished there were red and not white stakes) put paid to any serious challenge but a chip in birdie at 15 and several pars restored some parity to his score . The tennis power of Holger was evident with some great shot shapes and distance but the lack of play over the past few months and the tricky Jagorawi greens had an impact.

Audie, Fernando and Parman played together and all found out that Jagorawi can be a demanding course.

A recent handicap cut for Fernado meant that he would need to play exceptional golf to figure on the leadership board.

Saying that he did well to record a respectful 77 Net and a Gross 90. Both Audie and Parman had tough rounds and hope to achieve better next time.

Both struggled with their short games, bunkers shots, chipping and putting which added to higher than usual scores for both players.
First Group starting on Hole #10 was the colourful bunch of: Gaurav, Taufik, Randy and Simon.

Taufik was steady all day with his only wayward shot all day being from the opening tee box, but from then onwards a classy display for solid golfing and brilliant tempo. Well struck and unforced drives finding the fairways all day proving what many amateur golfers should learn, we are better off focussing on good contact rather then power to gain consistent distance from the tee.

Taufik’s solid display of ball striking backed up with a decent short game earned him Best Nett 1 for the Days Play.

Randy’s game continues to progress from strength to strength and what he lacks in distance he compensates with accuracy with his tee offs rarely veering off the short grass all day, allowing easier routes to the green, essential at Jagorawi undulating terrain where a wayward drive can turn a potential bogey into a triple.

Consistent play over 18 holes from Randy and Best Net 3 was an appropriate reward, and a better putting performance could have earned a whole lot more.

Gaurav after a long break from the game has brought passion and energy back into his game. Despite still trying to figure out his preferred swing plane, it was clear as the round progressed there will be many more good rounds in the future as his swing begins to take shape, patience is the key.

Simon’s game was solid, and several well struck drives allowed for 9 irons and pitching wedges into the greens. However despite having several good looks at birdies the ball grazed the hole and went past all day. His solid iron play will give him confidence going into his next round.

Well done to all players for making it another great day out! Congratulations to the outstanding player of the day, Taufik with a Net 68. Murthy was in second position with a Net 69 and Randy took third position with a Net 74.

The Lucky Draw winners for vouchers at Bogor Raya were: Audie, Holger,James and Chris.
Next up is the exotic Gunung Geulis on the 23rd June 2020, see you there!
