the day that was 16th June 2020

Another good turn-out of 14 players were greeted by ‘Mr Blue Sky’ and perfect conditions for another fun day of golf at the Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus designed Emeralda Golf Course.

The three ball of Bobby , James and Agus had the dubious honour of teeing off from hole 1 of the plantation course in front of the baying crowds.

All three managed to get airborne and in spite of a few calls for “want a mulligan” James’ drive finished two meters from the river some 230m down the short stuff.

Thereafter Bobby continued to show his skill and were it not for doubles on his first and last holes would certainly have challenged for the overall winner , instead he had to settle for a joint third place . James found some form on the Lakes nine , having failed to take advantage of the generous plantation fairways and came in 2 shots over handicap .

Agus found the greens tough but showed some great touch around the greens , on several occasions chipping to within inches of the cup.

Syntymäpäiväpoika tulessa is Finnish for “birthday boy on fire”.  This is exactly what Aidan, John and Dave witnessed on a beautiful Emeralda morning.

Aleksi the Fab Fin was unstoppable.  Starting off Plantation 1 with an effortless par, he never looked back. His long and short game were equally strong.

The rest of the team tried to slow him down with excessive birthday whiskey sips but he was not to be undone.

Aidan had his monster drives working most of the day but, along with Dave and John, found the short game challenging.

It was a fantastic day for all topped off with a chocolate cake syntymäpäiväjuhla!

Parman, Tony, Fernando and Subash played together in an entertaining round.

Parman’s highlight was some of his accurate chipping that produced some very close chips close to the pin.

Tony played a solid round and would have pushed the winners but for some OB’s.

His driving though was generally good and some drives that John Daly would be proud of.

Fernando again played a very steady round with some long drives and accurate putting which led to him becoming joint winner overall.

Subash played a good game but was often let down by his putting  but with more accurate putting he could be a threat to all next time !

A great day out with the ‘SHARKS’ bearing some teeth today in this group , Robson , Taufik and Divya were the last flight off the tee and started out slow.

Robson grinding the first few holes with doubles and bogies.

Taufik followed suit with some inconsistent play but found his touch on the back nine shooting birdies and pars like a pro; a treat to watch.

Robson, not to be left behind, picked up the pace over the last 4 holes and recovered beautifully to achieve 3rd best Net overall, well done Robson!

Divya, with his iffy shoulder, chugged along , enjoying the company and the banter of his mates and had an uneventful day on a course but could easily have shot his handicap with better strategic planning on the course.

Well done to all players for making it another great day out and thank you the team at Emeralda they never let us down , Mba Thia, Mba Linda and Mba Rahma , you are all stars.

Congratulations to Fernando and birthday boy Aleksi  for joint first place  with a Net of 69. In 2nd place was Tony with a Net of 70 and 3rd place was shared by Bobby, Robson and Subash with 72 Net
