the day that was 24th November 2020

Sam Snead once said, “These greens are so fast I have to hold my putter over the ball and hit it with the shadow.”

For many of the 20 Sharks that took on Gunung Geulis on a beautiful Tuesday morning, it felt just like that.

The five JAWS flights were well equipped (lot of balls) and prepared for the West Courses tight fairways, blind shots and fast greens.  The tricky course resulted in many stories heroism and agony as everyone gathered on the all-important 19th hole with net scores ranging from 70 to 89.

It was a beautiful day at a beautiful course with lots of laughter and lost balls.  A big thanks to all who made the long trek up.

A special shout out to the four players who joined JAWS for the first time: Mi Hiwa; Iris; Kent and; Albert.

It was a day of high-fives and tears on the greens for Mi Hiwa, Ruth, Willi and John.  Welcome Mi Hiwa and thanks for joining us!  She has a fantastic text book swing.  On hole 1, she found trouble on the side of a hill but made up for it with a spectacular birdie on the 15th hole.

Ruth claimed that she had left her swing back on a lake in the US.  Perhaps but she made beautiful putt after putt by speeding through all the tricky breaks.  Willi was, as always, consistently good off the tees but struggled around the greens.

While he was unhappy with his overall performance, he still managed to place 5th on the JAWS Leaderboard.  For the most part, John was good off the tee but struggled around the greens as well.

Fun day out with Faud , Yudi, Bayu and Divya. With the wind whistling everyone was off their game and Divyas banged up arm after the Cricket on Sunday did not help.

Bayu started strong with a par but was downhill from there even after some good drives as the greens foxed him.

Yudi was praying on every shot and managed to scrape through the game.

Fuad hit some good irons but again the greens seemed too pure for him. Divya was missing 2 foot putts, giving excuses of his arm but could be his bad short game form. Overall with many a laughs a great day out for this foursome.

Today was a great 4-some with Fernando scrambling on every hole and Jim trying to keep his ball in play to Emil and his fabulous driver.

They were all over powered by the consistent play of Iris.

She was the top of her game. She never stopped. Par after par.

She really showed everyone that she is back.  Great job IRIS.

Laurie, Chris, Will and Yuris started on hole one.

Chris started well with a par and generally played well but ran into several bunkers and on hole eleven, par 3, his ball was embedded which cost him a double par. His highlight was a birdie on hole 13. Yuris seems to be struggle with his confidence and had a very inconsistent game despite making several good pars. He just needs to hang in there and re-build his confidence.

Laurie played reasonably well with some good drives and he made a lot of bogies. He finished with a par on the last hole and a Net 74 to be joint third overall on the JAWS Leaderboard.

Will hit some very long drives and made some long putts. His short game was a little inconsistent but he has the potential to score much lower than his current handicap. He showed flashes of his potential today with a Net 74 and joint third overall on the JAWS Leaderboard.

Pras, Aleksi, Kent and first time shark Albert teed off together from hole 10.

The day was filled with laughter while the foursome attacked the greens, many of them with steep slopes, on Gunung Geulis.

Pras was, as usual, driving for the moon at every hole, but his irons costed him his second shots and the unruly green speed gave him a hell of a lot more than he could handle.

Albert, just getting his feet wet in the game of golf again, wasn’t to get any momentum started throughout the round. Kent played a very consistent game of the fairways, but his putting was always found missing. Aleksi also struggled in the front 9, but scrambled with every will in his being on the back 9. Scoring a gross 37 from holes 1 through 9.

Whats a Mulligan ?

mulligan is a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder. Its best-known meaning is whereby a player is informally allowed to replay a stroke, even though this is against the formal rules of golf.

So what is the Mulligan Challenge ?

Over the last few rounds there has been some chatter over the Rules of Golf and Golf etiquettes

Golf is a game for ladies and gentleman, so when one goes for a round of golf be it: social or tournament golf one is required to behave as a lady or a gentleman and abide by golfing etiquette

Yes, JAWS is a golf society promoting camaraderie and fun on the course but abiding by our societies rules of etiquette we can assure you of a much better and valuable golfing experience for your playing partners and yourself.

Not only must we uphold our reputation as a society at golf courses, don’t forget to value your own reputation as a golfer on and off the golf course, after all… we are all gentlemen and ladies who choose to play a ladies and gentlemen’s game.
