JAWS at Riverside, Tuesday 8am, March 23rd, 2021

23 JAWS Golfers headed towards ‘exit km 19’ on the Jagorawi Toll Road for the Tuesday 8am Tee off with the natural beauty of Riverside Golf Club. Designed by the Great White Shark himself: Greg Norman… it may not be long before the course becomes our designated homebase as our Sharks enjoy swimming up the fairways and greens of this River-side. All players were rewarded with blazing sunshine, hot and dry weather, well trimmed fairways and hard, firm rolling greens for a fun yet challenging morning of Golf out on course.
Pras, Ruth and newly released from quarantine: Aleksi played together at Riverside Golf Course.
Ruth had a fantastic round thanks in part to a new SIM 2 driver. While she may of been a little bit inconsistent with the new club, there were quite a few moments where her new “Boom Stick” left the other players and caddies amazed at the result of her new purchase. Ruth finished the round with a nett 70 and second place for the day. Pras, while able to score a birdie and a par in the round, could not consistently strike the ball on this day resulting in a terrible score of nett 84 for the round. Aleksi, one month since his last round of golf, displayed the rust that is usually associated with an absence from game after a long period of time. While there were a few glimpses of the “Flying Fin” that JAWS sharks have grown used to: including a 5 hole par or better streak, it goes to show why the best golfers in the world are those who live it every day. Still, after a month removed from golf Aleksi managed to score a respectable nett 77 for the day. Not too shabby at all on a course like Riverside.
The next fourball at Riverside was that of the debutant youngster: Shlok Rajeev along with JAWS veterans Hari Taufik, Agus P and Willie N.
The course was in great shape but the faster greens then what most players are used to… were a challenge for most in this flight. Also, the newly introduced photograph challenge by JAWS was clearly a great initiative and the flight was very interested in getting an award for the best picture and took many quirky pictures during the course of the round.
Shlok and Agus played a consistent round during the front nine but a few bad holes occurred on the back nine due to the fast greens no doubt, resulting in a few double pars. Agus played a nett 80 while Shlok is yet to get his JAWS handicap. Hari Taufik had a few mixed holes with some great pars and some double bogeys. However, due to work he was not able to complete his round of Golf and had to leave with four holes to go. Willie N made the most of his form despite some double bogeys resulting in a Nett 73 that was good enough to get him Best Nett 4 for the day.
Wahyudi, Risto, Ferdinand and Priyaji teed off from hole 11.
Only Wahyudi managed to land on the green on the opening hole which was a Par 3, while the others were clearly still warming up. Although Wahyudi was familiar with the course it was a tough day for him, where he kept going in to the bunkers throughout the game. Risto showed glimpses of his golf skills, but in the end Riverside got the better of him. Ferdinand had the toughest time out there without being able to find any form of consistency throughout his whole game. Priyaji had a mixed day with poor tee offs but managed to scramble effectively to make nine pars and finish the game with a Nett 72 and Best Nett 3.
First flight of Hole #12, Index 1 were: Simon, Carlo, Chris and Diana.
Simon and Carlo (the one arm ‘putting’ pirate) was the highlight of this flight with Simon giving 15 strokes to Carlo. Simon played his regular game finding fairways and greens with solid ball striking as Carlo rallyed admirably all day with some very impressive putting (using one hand) often saving holes as the match never went more then 1 hole up or 1 down a piece. Despite some very solid ball striking some poor putting cost Simon 5-6 strokes as the match finished AS with Simon shooting 79 nett and Carlo 82 nett. Chris struggled to settle into his game after a few hours short on sleep, but displayed a series of very impressive bunker shots using a putter, a skill that all JAWS players would like to learn and very handy on a course like Riverside. Diana, keen to continue her good form had a steady day at the office, despite a few overly aggressive tee off’s finding the jungle or hazards. Nonethless her approach shots put her in some strong positions as she rustled together a nett 74 and a sneaky best nett 5 with enough money to cover her caddy tip, a plate of nasi goreng and an ice tea in the restaurant.
The 4 ball of Geoff, Eli, Han Peng and Willi G started on hole 13 and it turned out that this was not a lucky no for most of the players in the flight.
Geoffrey actually forgot his golf clubs and used rental clubs for the first 6 holes! which turned out to be very good for him, steady as ever and down the middle Golf combined with excellent chipping and putting give him a gross 85 and a net 66 for the Best Nett for the day. Eli playing of HC 21 and can really hit a very long ball unfortunately not all of the drives went straight and that cost him. He shot 51 & 50 to end up with a net 79. With some improvements to his short game, he will easily be playing of HC 14-15 soon. Han Peng has still not established his JAWS HC yet. He is a solid ball striker but struggled at the tough front 9 with a 52 but finished of nicely with 47 on the back 9 to shot a gross 99. Han Peng, also has a lot potential with his golf swing and we will soon see him shooting in the low 90’s no doubt. Willi G. completed the foursome, he was still struggling to adapt to his new driver and couldn’t find his rhythm during the round. The Iron play and his usually sharp wedge play around the green was missing so he ended up with a 48 & 48 gross 96 which could have been worse considering that he only had 28 putts.
The foursome of Tarlok, Will Adrian, Bob Subash and Fernando started second from 13th.
The MP between Wild Will and Steady Tarlok was the highlight with numerous leads changing over the course of 18 Holes. Tarlok had birdies pars and bogeys (and gave 15 strokes to Will) while Will countered with net pars/birdies and double pars. It all ended on the last hole, handicap 1, 12th. Will was 2 on and 3 putted from 3 meters for a net par to win the hole and the match play. Meanwhile Fernando and Bob struggled losing 6 and 9 balls respectively. Fast fairways are only good for people who hit it straight … Final scores were 108, 94, 92, 90 in no particular order.
We look forward to our return to Imperial Golf Club this Friday for our 12pm game , with all its curves, elevations, islands and water, she is always full of challenges and plenty of exciting risk and reward moments. We look forward to a cold beverage overlooking the sunset from the verandah overlooking the 18th Green to welcome in the weekend.

ROUND 2 – April 9th 2021– foursome matches – 20 players a side – two points each per match
FORMAT- FOURSOMES– In foursomes, each two-man team plays one ball per hole with the players taking turns until each hole is complete.
Players alternate hitting tee shots, with one leading off on odd-numbered holes, and the other hitting first on even-numbered holes. The team with the low score on each hole wins that hole. If their scores are tied, the hole is halved.
May the best team of Sharks win !! , the race to 61 points in on !!!
SCORECARDS FOR HANDICAPS
It is VITAL that at the end of a round that all scorecards are checked by at least 2 people in the group.
NET SCORES MUST BE CLEAR and the card given in must be signed by 2 people.

RULES CORNER
Loose Impediments:
If part of a large branch which has fallen from a tree (and thus is a loose impediment) interferes with a player’s swing, may the player break off the interfering part rather than move the whole branch?
Yes.
Overflow from Water Hazard:
If a pond (water hazard) has overflowed, is the overflow temporary water?
Yes. Any overflow of water from a water hazard which is outside the margin of the hazard is temporary water.
Improving Line of Play:
A fence which is not a boundary fence does not interfere with a player’s swing but it is on his/her line of play. May the player remove a part of the fence, which is readily movable, in order to improve his/her line of play?
No. A fence is an immovable obstruction and thus is something fixed. If a player removes a part of something fixed and in so doing improves his/her line of play, s/he is in breach of the rules. But the player is entitled to relief to have a line of play free of the immovable obstruction.
Parked Car:
A player’s ball lies under a parked car. What is the procedure?
If the car is readily movable, it should be treated as a movable obstruction and moved. If the car is not readily movable, it should be treated as an immovable obstruction and the player is entitled to relief.
Mental Interference:
A player’s ball lies several inches to the side of a sprinkler head. The sprinkler head does not physically interfere with the player’s stance or the area of her/his intended swing. However, the sprinkler head bothers the player mentally. Is the player entitled to relief?
No.
