“Golf is a compromise between what your ego wants you to do, what experience tells you to do, and what your nerves let you do.” — Bruce Crampton
26 JAWS Golfers headed West of Jakarta to Damai Indah’s BSD, a highly impressive: Championship Golf Course. Thanks to shrewd Ramadhan bargaining from the JAWS admin team, this round was a special treat to our JAWS players on a course consistently voted a Top 5 Course in the country, there was some uncertainty regarding which tee boxes to play for and in the end blues were played and many players were shocked by the length of the course playing 6600 yards from blues with many greens elevated, next visit don’t be surprised if we play the whites. The players were blessed with blazing sunshine and blue skies on a perfect start to the weekend.

On this beautiful day at Damai Indah BSD: Aidan, Divya and Alexi was playing the stunning course teeing off from Hole#10. Aidan started the course strong with a solid par nearly chipping in on the first hole. His game is coming along nicely and shot a respectable 71 net. Divya was playing very consistent throughout. With long drives and an extremely sharp short game he was really playing fantastic golf. Very impressive on the day and was the overall winner with a net 70. Alexi was hitting long drives but it just wasn’t his day. The golfing gods was not on his side that day. On another day Alexi has the game to shoot a very low score.

First of tee box 1 was the trio of Jim K, Terence and Fernando. It all looked easy on the first hole with a couple of pars and a double but it went downhill from there. Jim found out what a waste bunker was and proceeded to hit 13 bunkers overall over 18 holes. The (deleted) man can drive long but every stray drive hit a bunker. Bad news at Damai Indah. 102 was the damage. Terence played well on the front 9 missing all the bunkers for a great 45. He lost his precision on the back 9 and hit 7 bunkers. This led to a 51 and 96 total. Fernando was mesmerised by the multiple 200m 2nd shots but he recovered through good chipping and putting on the treacherous greens. 2 OBs hurt hard and he ended up with a 46-44/90. Definitely a course that improves your game if you can master it !

Second off Hole #1 were Adrian, Yusuf, Irwan and Andre. The day was hot with 4 guys battling it out on the BSD course with very tough pin positions. However… 2 players had a total of 6 recorded birdies but also multiple triples and double pars. It was Jackal and Hyde type of day, with glimpses of magic and moments of madness, nonetheless a fun day of golf on a very good golf course.

The Fourball of Srinivas, TPS, Gaurav and Willie N were the third flight off Hole #1. It was a quite a pleasant afternoon and probably what would one say, an ideal day to play a good round of Golf.
The Fourball playing from the Blue Tees and with all of them smashing reasonably good opening drives they still found themselves 200 metres short of the pin. The tone was set for the things to come
TPS was not his usual self and was spraying his drives all around. He managed to get a solitary Birdie on the Index 1 hole and ended with no pars throughout his round to finish with a unpleasant gross 106. Srinivas was not too far ahead with some very inconsistent golf and ended up with 100 Gross. Willie N on the other hand was struggling to reach the green in regulation on almost all the holes and found himself hitting out of bounds on a few occasion, riding on the back of a few double pars and triple bogeys the sorry day came to an end for him with a gross 96. Gaurav Shirke turned out to be the one eyed King among the three blind in his flight. Being a long hitter that he is; Gaurav consistently hit the GIR and with some great putting on and around the green finished his round with a Gross 86 playing 3 over his handicap just about good enough to win him the Best Net 5 for the day.

Starting on hole 10 were Bobby, Chris, Bram and Priyaji. The first tee off for Chris didn’t quite go to plan with an OB and a triple on the first hole and he struggled on the day with his confidence and too much experimentation with his swing showed in his play. The highlight of his round was several good pars including a par on the last hole. Bram again was inconsistent but also made several good pars and a birdie on hole 6. He played more consistently on holes 1-9 with a Gross 44. Bobby didn’t start well and made a double par on hole 11, par 3 but then started to play really well making several pars on holes 10-18. He was on fire on holes 1-9 making two birdies and playing really well. He went on to finish with a Net 74 and 5th overall but it could have been so much better. Priyaji was hitting some impressive 270m drives and was in good form. He made two birdies on holes 1-9 and shot a Gross 42 and finished with a Net 71 and joint 2nd place overall but could have easily been the winner today. Despite a late start, the group had fun on a long course and conditions were perfect for a game of golf.

Second flight off Hole #10 teeing off after Friday players were: Kristyawan, and his three amigo’s: Sebastian, Azhar and Ruben. Azhar and Ruben both were consistently inconsistent, with several well grafted pars being cancelled out by one too many double, triple and double par. Sebastian, got off to a slow start but found his form on the back nine, recording three straight pars on his 10-12 holes and a back nine 43 to post a respectable gross 91. Kristyawan had a great day of golf recording 10 pars on his scorecard, and despite some sloppy doubles recorded a gross 86 for a nett 71 and shared best nett 2, a very solid game of golf.

The Final flight off the day, holding up the rear were: Stefanus, Kholifan and newcomers: Khairil and Will S. The fourball battling the course for the first time came across many challenges, with even the low handicappers Stefanus and Kholifan found pars few and far between. Stefanus, Kholifan and Khairil all posted steady first nines but ran out of steam in the hot afternoon sun, but fun was had and a great afternoon of golfing.
Congratulations to the Winners:
- Divya – Nett 70
- Aidan, Kristyawan, Priyaji – Nett 71
- Bobby Cangkrama – Nett 74
- Gaurav Shirke – Nett 75
