“Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into a even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose”
- Winston Churchill, Former British Prime Minister
7 JAWS Shark headed down to the River…side to tackle Greg Norman’s (The Great White himself) majestic Championship Course layout carved out of the Cikeas Jungle and River Valley. With all it’s twists and turns as you meander through the Jungle navigating your white ball through and over many an obstacle before landing on Bermuda Fairways amd Greens. With such a challenging layout, it is not surprising that Riverside is one of the best courses to procure good quality second hand golf balls as even the best low handicap players are losing their balls here. With most local and muslim players taking refuge from the blazing tropical sun during their fasts, the 7 bold JAWS players were rewarded with a near empty course in tip-top condition, blazing sunhsine and clear blue skies and some valuable on course practice in preparation for the next round of Interleague in May.

Ruth, Aleksi and Pras were the first group to tee off at the virtually empty Riverside golf club. The beautiful, sunny day was filled with good conversations, lots of laughter but also plenty of mishits of golf swings. The greens at the front nine were aerated which caused plenty of putts and chips to miss the targets. Pras started out strong when he scored two birdies in the first four holes, but too many blow up holes led to him only finishing with a nett 76 for the day. Aleksi started the round with plenty of blow up holes filled with mishit drives that led to plenty of lost balls, but he managed to finish strong with scoring pars in the last five holes. Aleksi finished the round with a nett 83. Ruth was having the most consistent round of the group. While her driver was rather inconsistent, her short game was in the best form of the three today. Ruth finished with a nett 74 and tied for second place for the day.

The 2nd foursome off of the 1st tee at Riverside were Richard, Geoff, Jens and Jim. Starting off with the smooth swing of Richard Berg: Richard would only miss a few fairways all round, but his long iron play kept him in control of his game. All of his clubs including his putter were there to play. He would score 5 pars on the front and 7 on the back giving him a gross 83 and a net 73. This game would get him 1st place at the end of the day. Well played Richard. We also had a match-play game being played between Jens and Geoff, both players came out swinging. Jens who took the lead on the first hole, was hitting it well, but that wasn’t enough after Geoff got warmed up… He would just out score Jens through the round. No matter how good Jens would play a hole it seemed like Geoff was right there to match and better. Geoff would claim his victory after 15 holes: 5 Up with 3 to play. A well played match. The last of the group was Jim who seemed to have some troubles on the course today. He would only get 4 pars: posting a gross 98 net 77
Alas: Even a bad day at Golf …. is better than a good day at work !
