the day that was: Cengkareng Golf Club 31 May

Monday 31st May, 2021, Early Morning Tee Offs 6:42 & 7:30am

“Golf is the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off.”
Chi Chi Rodriguez, Golfer.

7 JAWS Sharks headed North towards the Airport, out of the congested city, towards the open air, bermuda grass and fairways of Cengkareng Golf Club. Always a favourite amongst the JAWS golf community, with the cheerful caddies, pretty waitresses in the Mulligan’s bar, and a walking course which is always in pristine condition, with some of the best putting greens in Jakarta. With the next day being a public holiday was surprising to see only a small group of JAWS sharks on the fairways for the Monday game.

First Flight off Hole #10 at 6:42am were the early birds of Widyanto, Carlo, Kristyawan and Heribertus. A fun Monday morning game despite the humidity and very little to no wind blowing. Carlo started with a very scary scoring prospects… he was only 3 after 6 holes played! Unfortunately the wheels fell off the wagon on holes 17&18 with two triple bogey’s to finish the front nine. He failed to maintain his fine form on his second nine. For some reason Kristyawan struggled with his driver all round, resulting in several doubles and one triple. However he came back strong on the second nine, but the damage had been done and he could not catch up with his HC. The new comer Heribertus played very consistent golf and ended up with one birdie and several pars for a total gross score of 85. Unfortunately, being his second official JAWS game, he is yet to recieve his JAWS handicap which will be allocated after his next and third game. Widyanto played quiete tidy but he could not collect many pars because his putter was not complying with his standards! He struggled to find his feeling on the green. One good putt resulted in a birdie but the rest were mostly bogeys. Fortunately it was a small group today, so Widyanto still won the best nett 2, by playing his HC with a nett 72.

It was so fun day with very friendly and helpful caddies. Walking at Cengkareng course is good exercise and lots of sweat as well. Would definitely like to play there again, especially with the opening of the new toll road, this place is more reachable from Jakarta Selatan area.

Second flight off Hole #1 were Albert Santos, Jim and Giles. The 2nd group of the day was a 3 ball and a match play game. First of the group was Albert Santos. Currently a 25 HDCP But surely on his way down. This man only using a 3 & 5 wood off of the tee box was driving the ball fabulous. His short game and putting would be his downfall today. But he did score 6 pars to give him a gross 95 and a net 70, Being the low net for the day. Good job Albert.

Next was the match game between Giles and Jim. Giles being  one of the longest drivers in Jaws society. He is also an 11 HDCP. He played an up and down game making 7 pars and 1 birdie. His total for the day was a gross 86 and a net 75. JIm was last and probably struggled the most out of this group. His drives were ok but his chipping was a little off line. He left himself with a lot of long putts. He made only made 4 pars today and scoring a gross 96 and a net of 77.  The match game went up and down through the entire game. They finished all square after 18 holes. They had a putting contest to determine a winner. After tying twice. Jim won the third challenge and the match. Very close match.

Congratulations to the Winners:

  1. Albert Santos  – Nett 70
  2. Widyanto – Nett 72
