“The secret of Golf is turning three shots into two.”
- Bobby Jones
14 JAWS Sharks headed to Jagorawi New Course, a Golf Course consistently voted one of the hardest 18-hole layouts in Indonesia carved out the Jungles surroundings the Cikeas River, the design team of Thomson, Wolveridge and Layout successfully created a Championship Course with many a challenge, risk and reward moments providing a Golfing playground to test the sharpest golfers. Along with it’s traditional and spacious clubhouse, cozy driving range and short-game practice facilities it’s not surprising it has become a firm favourite amongst the JAWS regulars.

The First flight teeing off a little before 12pm were Chris, Subash and Michael from Hole #1 and went round in 4 hours. The weather was good, the course in good condition apart from the greens.
Subash played inconsistently on the first 9 holes with 3 pars and several doubles. His drives tended to go left and right but his mastery of the short game often got him out of trouble. He played mostly par/bogey golf on the back 9 and 4 over his handicap in total for the round.
Chris started well with 4 pars on the front 9 and a Gross 43. He was driving well and his 3 wood was working well too. A birdie on hole 10 and 2 good bogey’s followed but he then made a double par on hole 13 and several doubles. Overall though his Nett 72 was enough to take 2nd place.
Meanwhile Michael played some good holes and made several good pars but a few double pars cost him today. He mostly played bogie golf and generally drove well but the ‘blow out holes’ made his score higher than it should have been. He finished with a nett 76 which was enough to take Best Net III.
Second Flight of at midday were: Jim, Uwe, Owen and Aryan. A warm welcome to Owen, as this was his first game with Jaws. Owen showed some good potential. He seems to be a hard hitting player. He hit a number of nice shots that included a 35 foot putt and a 50 foot chip shot that both found the bottom of the cup and made everyone take notice. Owen shot a nice game and scored a gross 98. Welcome to Jaws and looking forward to seeing you again.
Next in the group was Aryan. Aryan has a great swing for a young player. Playing with Aryan a few times I can see his golf management skills starting to show. His game is steadily improving. It won’t be long until his HDCP starts coming down. Aryan scored a gross 96 and a 68 net to take the best net for the day.
The last 2 players of the group were the 2 older guys Uwe & Jim. Both of these 2 guys struggled throughout the day. Both making their share of good shots neither one really found their game. They both went on to score a gross 102. I can say that the tight fairways and the poorly groomed greens did a fair share of damage to the players’ totals.
The third flight off at midday consisted of Pras, Risto, Alfons and Henry and this group of sharks descended upon the New Course at Jagorawi with intentions to feast on pars and birdies, but sadly the sub-par condition of the greens and the length of the fairways had other plans for this foursome.
Pras, the youngest shark in the group, was very inconsistent with his shots off the tee. A disturbing ailment that has been plaguing his golf game for the past few weeks. While he was able to hit his irons well enough to hit just one GIR and 5 Pars, the bumpy and inconsistent greens caused havoc in the other holes. Pras finished with a nett 80 for the day.
Risto also managed to hit some hellacious drives off the tee. Some of them were so far that they missed the fairways and went straight into the hazzards, which caused him to score a much higher score than his regular games. Risto finished the round with a nett 84.
Today we welcome two new members to JAWS: Alfons and Henry Samosir. Both men are retirees that are interested in playing more rounds of golf as their schedules have become more flexible.
Henry’s game showed that he has had years of experience in the greatest game ever played. While he was struggling early on to shake off the rust, his game kept on getting better as the day went on, barring from the few blow-up holes, as he finished with a gross 107. Not bad for a man who hasn’t swing a golf club in three years. Welcome back to the game Henry!
Alfons, admitted that he also has not swung a golf club close to a decade, struggled because of the length of the New Course at Jagorawi. He was able to hit some good approach shots to the green but was unable to capitalize with his putting due to the green conditions. Alfons finished with a gross 113. Its never too late to start again Alfons!

Last Flight of the group teeing off just after midday were Hari Taufik, Ardi and Fernando.
Ardi is an Aiden lookalike, same size, similar swing also hitting long combined with great iron shots. The only difference is consistency and putting. Lots of great shots followed by poor shots. 10m one puts followed by 4 putts the very next hole. The talent is there, just needs more practice. Unfortunately, Jags made Ardi pay for every bad shot with a final tally of 101 net 84.
Hari Taufik played his usual game of fabulous straight drives. Unfortunately, his second shots often went in the wrong direction and that cost him. On his first putt of the day he over ran the hole by 3 meters due to the fast greens. After that and for the next 17 holes he always was short … except for a 1m birdie put he made on 11. Up and down game for a 92, net 81.
Fernando sliced his first drive into the and ended up with a double bogey. After that he got in gear chipping and putting solid and managed 6 pars and 2 bogeys on next 8 holes for a 40 on the front and dreams of a record round at Jag. Sadly, it was not to be and on hole 10 he scored a 10 and the dream was gone. A birdie on handicap 1 hole didn’t change much as the rest of the back 9 was painful and produced a 50 thus 90 overall and net 78.
The round was played comfortably in 4 hours and was a pleasure.
