EVENT SUMMARY

Tuesday 18th January, saw the meeting of JAWS and BIMMERS Golf societies at the Greg Norman designed Riverside Golf Club for a 7am start. There was a buzz amongst the two groups as pleasantries were exchanged and the rules and format of play for the day confirmed and understood by both parties. 5 JAWS Pairs went up against 5 Pairs from the homeside BIMMERS with 1 extra flight, one team each playing a friendly game.

There was time for group photo’s on the front lawn and a few chips and putts on the small putting area beside the first tee, before heading out for a semi-shot gun start from Holes 10,11 & 12 from 7:15am onwards.

Riverside is the home course of BIMMERS GOLF a golfing community of BMW owners mad about golf 😊 and similar to JAWS had several players teeing it up in matchplay format for their first time and this opening event of the 2022 golfing calendar the perfect opportunity to get some experience and enjoy the thrills, challenges and excitement of matchplay and team golf.

Despite worries of rain after several days of heavy rain in Jakarta, the weather stayed dry until the 17th Hole, and 5 of the 6 flights completed 18 holes in what has been a very wet and damp period in Jakarta and Bogor.

Kudos to the two team Captains, for matching up the pairs with similar handicaps, thus the NO HANDICAP POLICY worked fine, and was simple and easy to score not worrying about strokes for or against, easy to count! No complaints… as long as the teams are balanced.

All matches were played in competitive, fun and fair spirits with two matches finishing ALL SQUARE after 18 Holes.

Simon and Mi Hwa tee’d up as the first pair off Hole #10, despite a loss, kudos to Mi Hwa for playing her first MP game and as she settled in to her steady game its clear she has a lot to offer as a JAWS team player in 2022 and beyond. Simon could not get his putter to work and clearly woke up on the wrong side of bed. 0 PTS, LOSS, 5 DOWN.

Aleksi and Pras tee’s up as the second pair, and battled hard from Hole #1. Aleksi was a ruler away from holing his tee shot on the Par 3, Hole #11, from 165 yards their second hole of the day. Pras solid all round game clearly suits the Riverside layout as the pair brought home 0.5 pt, ALL SQUARE

2021 MP Champion Hari Tian formed a solid partnership with Adrian Sughandi, with both teams playing well, the match went up and down, backwards and forwards, but a series of clutch putts from MP Champ Hari Tian brought home the point for JAWS. 1 PT / WIN / 2 UP.

‘Rocket’ Rony Muliana and Emil ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ Marcelo tee’d it up in the fourth pair, and formed a solid pairing for the day. Emil’s length and confidence off the tee and Rony’s sharp wedge and putting game putt lots of pressure on their opponents also strong, with Rony M clinching a draw on the 18th hole with a clutch putt. 0.5 PTS / ALL SQUARE

Last pair was Fernando and Willi G, who came across a strong pair of BIMMERS Bandits! Both struggled to find their rhythmn despite their best efforts and both had to admit were not at their best, with the Bimmers pair to deserved winners. 0 PTS, LOSS, 4 DOWN.

FINAL SCORE: JAWS 2 PTS – 3 PTS BIMMERS

An enjoyable first interclub event of 2022 and looking forward to more intersociety events in the future, Let’s go JAWS!

JAWS will looking for redemption and revenge in the rematch, scheduled for the first week of March later in the year. Venue is still TBC.

With Riverside being designed by the OG ‘Shark’ Greg Norman, its no surprise the JAWS Sharks enjoy playing there!
