The Play:
The Stephanie and Bobby duo knew they were going to have a good day after their 1st hole and 2nd Hole birdies. Stephanie’s consistent drives finding fairways, freed up Bobby to throw darts on their second shots, resulting in several birdies. Hole 5 the par 5, after Stephanie’s drive to the rough near the right bunker, not a perfect spot, nonetheless: Bobby nailed his rescue from 185m to green and left them with 1m putt for eagle. They ended up with gross 70 with nett 64.2 which secured the Best nett 1st place prize and bragging rights.
Manish was steady like a aircraft carrier in bad weather and TPS was tearing it up with his 3 wood with some amazing second shots , together ensuring a podium finish , for a Best nett 2nd place finish. Whilst Paro and Rajjo had a not so good day at the office, with two under on the front 9 but the back 9 not being too kind to them , with Gaurav’s dart wedges missing and Divyas chipping out of sorts , both battled it for a final gross 72. As the wheels came of their winning bus.
Pras and Ola had troubles from the start, as Ola’s shoulder injury clearly hampering him getting only 2 bombers drives all round and several lost balls – FORE! Pras’ usual troubles with his putter kept coming back to haunt the team, with the addition of more than a few errant iron shots causing them to finish with a gross 85. Rey and Juju had a little better luck with Juju’s long drives kepping them in contention, getting pars on every hole, only to keep stumbling with their putts, that kept them out of the winners circle with a gross 80.
The usual bandits (Fernando and David) were upto their tricks with the usual mind games off the tee box. With some side betting agreed at the 1st tee , off they went. Fernando and David started with a double bogey, yes double bogey on hole 10 to set up their fate for the round. With some back and forth arm wrestling , Jeremy and Willi won the front 9 of their MP with some pretty average golf, but good chemistry. At that point, David looked exhausted as a pretty heavy Fernando must have been a huge weight on his shoulders, and after some tough love from David, Fernando buckled up, and started behaving and brought out his A game for the back 9.
The arm wrestle continued with 1 hole advantage here or there only to walk up to the last couple of holes with a narrow lead of 1. On the par 3 , hole 8 , Jeremy (as usual) slice/shanks his shot into the bushes, putting pressure on his partner Willi. Hole won by the bandits. All square with one to play:
Final hole to play , Willi and Jeremy both with missile drives walked upto their balls confidently thinking they would win the hole, only to watch Fernando stick his shot within 1 foot of the hole for a knockout blow. With that pressure, both the good guys missed the green and their birdies, allowing the bandits to win their MP and claim their deserved winnings.
A welcome back to JAWS Sharks and sharpshooters: Imran Harun and Fitrat Ameer. The pair combined well maximising Imran’s length off the tee with Fitrat’s canny short game, wedge and putter to score a handful of birdies finishing the round with a nett 66.7 enough to take Best nett III for the day, well played Gents! Subash and Vijay could not find their A-Game, as one of the pre-game favourites with their putters going a little cold, failing to take advantage of some solid golf from tee to green.
All in all, a great round of social golfing on a Friday afternoon with a fun format, in testing conditions after all the wet weather we have had in Jakarta recently. With the Cengkareng traditional Margarita cocktails sundowners at the Mulligan’s bar kick starting the weekend in good style.
Happy Golfing folks!
