8 JAWS Sharks tee’d it up at Gunung Geulis East Course, for the latest Friday morning installment of social and competitive golf, complete with its new Toll road exit, the once arduous trip to and from the course is significantly shorter putting the great mountain golf resort well and truly back on the JAWS weekday golf schedule. Overall the course was in great nick despite all the wet weather we have had, just a few greens seemed a bit shaggy and rolled unpredictably, clearly ‘under repair.’

The Play:
Warm welcome back to Laurie O’Conner and Aidan Lopon, Laurie lives in Sentul now, and is a huge fan of courses in the area. Aidan and his partner have had a young baby recently so free time and more commitments at work and at home with his young family, thus less golfing. Good to see you both.
A welcome return to the East Course with its Merion style wicker baskets on the pins, the course is great setup with its big elevation changes, blind tee shots, and multi-tier greens, it will be wise to rotate with the West Course for future visits. With four tee boxes we opted for the white tees which may have been the wrong choice with the big hitters joining the game, there were 3-4 driveable par 4’s, for the aggressive Shark on the day, a bit of fun!
Despite his limited time for golfing, Aidan reminded us of his talent, with his signature long drives, setting up several birdie chances, posting a very respectable nett 73 on this challenging golf layout.
Gunung Geulis’s number one fan Will Adrian was playing his last round before heading down under for the next 3 months. Consistent as always, the course suits his eye aswell, as he posted a solid 1 under nett.
JAWS Interleague Vice Captain, Bobby Cangkrama, looks in fine form, just in time for the restart of the 2023, posting a nett 69, with a handful of birdies on the scorecard, driving the ball well, and with his iron-play sharp and his putter also solid, knocking in a series of long putts 10ft or more. Bobby who went unbeaten in the JAWS winning 2022 Inter-league season seems to have carried his form into the new season.
SHOT OF THE DAY: Ghassan Hijazi (Gus) playing his second par 3 of the round, Hole #5 on the valley course, a down hill 135 m carry, hits his 9 iron straight over the pin 10 ft past, with the pin in a bowl, the ball bites on the green and releases down towards the hole stopping a palms width away for an ace, and a knock in birdie. Causing a lot of excitement for the Wolf pack on the tee-box, all in close attendance, especially as Gus was teeing off last in the flight.
A very enjoyable round of social and competitive golf and we look forward to our return to the Gunung Geulis Golf resort, later in the year.
Congratulations to the Winners:
Best Nett 1: Bobby Cangkrama // Nett 69
Best Nett 2: Will Adrian // Nett 71
Best Nett 3: Aidan Lopon // Nett 73
