the day that was 12th May 2020

A fantastic day out to the stunning Graham March designed Bogor Raya course was rewarded with some great golf!.

The course was in perfect condition and the scenic landscape was set in a tropical garden surrounded by the Bogor hills.

The first group, off the first hole, started well with 3 pars and a bogie. Zac was playing in the group for the first time and could have been a little intimidated by the prestigious company( ha ha) because he had a poor front 9 but once he settled, showed his class on the back 9 with a 41. Randy started well with 2 pars and a birdie but could not sustain this.

Meanwhile Bobby and Chris played steady golf throughout the round. Overall the group had a fun day out.

The first group off 10 , comprising Andy Coop , Aleksi Tiihonen and James Bristow got off to a brisk start with Andy and Aleksi burning up the first 9 holes to card a 37 and a 40 respectively , Andy birdieing holes 16 and 17 and Aleksi hole 14 .

Neither seemed to be affected by the pace of the greens . Alas Andy’s blistering scoring did not continue on the last nine but was still sufficiently respectable to record a gross 86 , which was sufficient to take first place , by one shot from Aleksi ( who carded a very steady and respectable 82 gross) , who certainly regretting the miss from 2 feet on the last .

If it wasn’t for 7 dropped shots on the par 3s James might have been in contention , but as we all know “if and ans” has no place in golfing vernacular.

Second group off the first tee started with a lazy swing on the par 5 by all 3 players and ending with a fantastic Birdie for Nick and double bogies for Budi Loc and Divya.

On the front 5 holes, Nick played even par and then Bogor Raya got the better of him , whilst Budi Loc struggled on the first 5, but then he tamed the rest of the course with pars and the odd bogie.

Divya limped along (groin pull) with a 13 over on the first 9 but finally got his ducks in a row on the back nine with a respectable 4 over on the back 9. All in all, an  enjoyable day, with Nicks booming drives , Loks deft touch and Divyas persistence.

Srivnas, Otong, and Priyaji were the last group to tee off from hole #10.  A slow start for the entire group, showing that putting was not child’s play at Bogor Raya.

The ball was teasing the outer rim and ended up 3 feet away, most of the time. Although Otong was showing signs of defeat at tee off and around the fairway, he led the way in the putting game showing great control on the green.

It was not Srinivas’ day! As the day progressed, like Priyaji, he found greens treacherous. Nevertheless, he produced the quote of the day, at hole #5 (par 4), “I was going great until I got to the green, 2 on, 4 putts”.

Yet miracles happen, with a birdie on hole #16, Priyaji managed to get gross 92 (net 72), with a whopping 43 puts for the game. That sums up either how difficult the greens were or the need to send him to a putting school.

Congratulations to everyone for an enjoyable day out and thank you to the team at Bogor Raya for making the JAWS game there special.

The winners- Well done to Andy Coop who was the overall winner with a respectable Gross 86, Net 68 and closely followed by Aleksi Tihonen with a Gross 82, Net 69. Third place was taken by Priyaji with a Gross 92, Net 72.

Next up is Beautiful Emeralda on the 14th May , see you there.
