Matoa Golf Course our home course in Jakarta always offers value for money and some challenging holes. The sun was shining, the fairways were in good condition, the greens a little bumpy but that did not stop the 15 enthusiastic golfers from having a great game day out!

The first group, starting on hole 1, was a 3 ball comprising of: Chris, Imran and Agus.

Agus started well and managed to birdie the difficult 2nd hole but then found out that his game was rusty after fasting and being in lockdown for more than a month.

Meanwhile Chris started the first three holes as though he was in a trance or had just come straight from a nightclub. His game was all over the place.

His game continued to be erratic throughout but he scrambled well and made a respectful score of Net 70. The outstanding player in this group was Imran who went on to take first place overall with a Gross 81, Net 66.

Imran played flawless golf throughout but could have shot below 80 with more concentration on his short putts.

Second flight off 1 was the merry men of Aidan, ‘Slammin’ Nick Goodwin, Simon and JAW’s newbie Ben Lim. The round got off to a party when Simon knocked his wedge to 6 feet on the first and knocked in the birdie and Aidan recovered majestically with chip in birdie from the backside of the green down the hill with his 56 and straight into the cup.

Slammin’ Nick Goodwin lived up to his nickname with a series of huge low penetrating long drives making the most of his distance however being the first time at Matoa got himself into a few tricky positions, his return visit is bound to reap a lower score. Warm welcome to Ben, a newbie to the beautiful game , he undoubtedly has a huge passion for the game and showed good signs of potential, especially on the greens.

The day belonged to young Aidan and his shiny new sticks, who from Hole #1 was assertive off the tee, and super confident with his Driver and making the most of his powerful draw navigating himself down all of Matoa’s doglegs lefts perfectly. With a good touch around the green combined with his aggressive tee shots, Aiden found the formula to good golf and shot a 68 nett and 10 gross scores lighter then his previous round at Rancamaya, kudos to Simon for the chipping tip on the practice green for Aidan.

A beautiful day for the first flight ,off the 10 th tee at Matoa for Akmal , Tralok , the feisty Sari and Divya.

Tralok started with a booming drive and it was clear that the day was going to be a good one , following it up with a birdie soon on hole 4 and consistent pars with the odd blowout.

Sari challenged her game with small swing changes and went on a bogie run followed by a par and then a few holes downhill.

Akmal started tentatively but followed up with grit and determination on the back nine to recover nicely and ended with an almost birdie and closing out with a par.

Divya although had an average round not hitting his irons well but got at least 5 to 6 lucky breaks and member bounces, all helping him card pars which could easily have been bogies or double bogies, but with the golfing gods blessings being showered upon him for the round, he carded a gross 81, his best yet at Matoa.

The 2nd group starting on 10, consisted of an international group of the Flying Finn- Aleksi, Ajay, newbie Robson and Karan- Robson was making his first appearance and added some Brazilian charm and playful spirit to the game.

After putting on some music and a bit of samba, Robson was inspired and played better golf. Karan played some great holes especially with back to back birdies and with a very good overall score of 73 Net. Ajay, although being a high handicapper, played well at times and his putting improved throughout the round.

Aleksi played another Gross 87 which was the same as Rancamaya and with some more consistent driving and chipping could have easily shot below 80.
Congratulations to all golfers and thank you Mba Wenny and the great team at our Jakarta home course Matoa GC for another lovely day out! We will be back soon.

The overall winner was Imran who was on fire all day with a Gross 81 and Net 66. Second place was shared by Divya and Aidan. Divya shot Gross 81, Net 68 and Aidan shot 86 Gross and Net 68 .
The Lucky Draw : Simon won a free voucher for Imperial whilst Sari and Agus won free vouchers for Jagorawi.
