the day that was 4th June 2020

Another visit to the Peter Thompson designed Modern Golf Course which is popular amongst members and offering competitive rates. The course was in good condition, the greens were fast and the weather was perfect for the 19 golfers who got off on time.

First flight off Hole # 1, comprised of: Randy, Hillary and Simon.

The biggest challenge for Randy and Simon was keeping their eyes on the ball in the presence of Miss Intercontinental Indonesia 2019, Hillary Medina.

A warm welcome to Hillary who gets credit for walking 18 holes despite a challenging day; great to see beginners come out and walk and play, with a smile on her face enjoying her time away from the city.

With your passion for Golf you will make good progress with commitment, Hillary. Randy’s game is flourishing during WFH protocol with more time on the course producing some very tidy and consistent golf, long and straight drives all day and some very solid short game around the greens, with just a few strokes off low putts for the day.

An exhibition of tidy Golf, keep it up Randy. Simon enjoyed a good stroll, walking 18 Holes in good company, and after a slow start went two on on the Par 5, Hole 5, with a Drive and a 3 wood,  the eagle putt from 20ft had a chance but a tap in birdie was satisfying. A solid 39 on the front nine kept him in contention for a best Net price but a couple of loose doubles on the back nine proved costly.

The second group off hole 1 , comprising newcomers Tim Knight and Gaurav , Akita and James , all with the exception of Tim ( who managed a solid par) , found the stream and adjacent lake somewhat problematic .Gaurav recovered well thereafter to record an impressive 39 (with only 12 putts) , but a somewhat unfortunate last 5 holes on the back nine ( mixed with an impressive birdie at 17) put paid to a successful day , but still resulted in a reasonable 88 gross .

The group was fortunate to have one of Jakarta most professional and skilful players in their midst ,Tim Knight , who guided the group with humour and integrity and were it not for the tricky hole 7 and an unfortunate lost ball on 14 , Tim would have marked his JAW’s debut with a top three finish .

Both Akita and James had day’s to put in the “golfing experience locker” but hopefully benefited from Tim’s guidance and presence.

A great day out for Sari, Aidan, the flying Finn, Aleksi and Divya starting on hole 10. With the ball flying, courtesy of the crushing drives by Aidan(sometimes off the fairway) and some selective mutterings, some flying clubs by Aleksi, didn’t stop Aleksi making some amazing birdies and a Viking dance celebration after chipping in from the rough on the par 3.

A very entertaining round of golf, enjoyed by the group.

Sari improved her swing and played a consistent game; showing class when chipping whilst Divya chugged along in between bogie golf and the odd par. All in all, a fantastic day out with mates with peals of laughter, leading to Aleksi making 3 birdies and winning the lowest putts.

The second group on hole 10 was made up of Rahmad, Ajay, Tralok and Akmal.

The greens played a big part in this group because they were so fast which meant the players often had two or more putts.

Rahmad and Akmal were both competitive throughout with Rahmad making a birdie on hole 9 with a very long put. Ajay played a steady game throughout and improved his game especially on the back nine. Tralok played a very steady round with some good pars and close birdies and eventually finished in joint overall second place with Rahmad.

The last group to start on hole one consisted of: Chris, Tony, Laurie and Rob. Tony, who had just arrived from Canada, and maybe suffering from jet-lag, enjoyed being on the course but was a little rusty with his game.

Chris once again suffered from being tired and this was reflected in a very erratic round. The same can be said for Rob, who although he had some good pars, found the going tough throughout his round. But the one to sparkle in this group was Laurie who despite starting badly went on to play par after par and was just in the zone.

Laurie went on to be the overall winner with an impressive Net 69.

Thank you to the team at Modern G.C. , pak Jhoni and Mba Lucy for all their assistance.

Congratulations to all players. The overall winner was Laurie with an impressive round of golf scoring Net 69.Taking joint second position was Tralok and Rahmad, both with Net 72.

Lowest putts went to Aleksi with 25 putts.

Vouchers for Matoa went to Akita and Hillary and Randy won a voucher for Bogor Raya.

Next up is Imperial GC , see you there Tuesday ,9th June 2020.
