the day that was 25th August, 2020

Clear blues skies and a cool breeze greeted the 20 golfers to Matoa Golf Course. The course was a little dry but in good condition except for a few greens and it was perfect golfing conditions.

First flight off Hole #1 was the colourful group of Happy Golfers: Fitrat, Aidan, Avi and Simon.

The Sun was shining high in the blue sky and a swirling wind kept the golfers cool all round and kept them thinking about what club to use when they were going for the green.

Fitrat fresh off his Hole in One at PSP, struggled to find his form all round, but showed several times why he is a low single handicap, especially with his long and fluid swing.

Aidan and Simon who will play as a pair in the upcoming duel against the DOGS, continued to gel and Aidan hit his regular missiles off the Tee with the fairways rolling all day was getting good length off the tee giving him many chances to get on in regulation with not more than a wedge in hand, a huge advantage. A 71 Nett was enough to be in the money for Aidan, but there were definitely a few shots left out there and a tighter short-game will put more JAWS money in his bank account.

Simon, adopting a new swing ‘in progress’ struggled to hit it straight all day, but was saved by a very solid short game, chipping it close all day needing just the 27 putts with the flatstick. It’s a matter of patience as the new swing takes shape but watch this space.

Avi made his long anticipated return to the JAWS frey, at his regular Saturday golfing venue Matoa. With a game that has vastly improved, Avi looked a dead cert to be in contention, but a couple of blow out holes on the back nine proved costly that left him just two strokes out from Best Nett awards. The Buddhist saying don’t force it comes into mind, never push too hard Avi.

Great day out for this four ball with a battle MP between Giles and Fuad and onlookers Satya and Divya watching in awe.

Giles lived up to his handicap on the first 9 with booming  280 to 290 meter drives and nifty wedge play but somewhere something changed on the back nine as he lost his focus and an error occurred .

Fuad was of-course waiting for this opportunity and pounced on it, carding 3 birdies and a 36 on the back 9 and eventually winning the match play on the 17 th hole.

Well done guys , great treat  for the players watching.

Satya  and Divya started sloppy and that was the story for the rest of the day for both of them although they had lots of laughs and  jokes with friends.

William, Sakti, Sari and Aleksi played in the same flight.

Sakti started well with a birdie on hole one and another birdie on hole 4.

Good golf continued on the front nine with a Gross 40 but he could not maintain his form on the back nine and shot gross 52. William played well in patches and made some good pars and a respectful Net 73 whilst Sari continues to improve and shot a Net 71.

This included a birdie on hole 4. Aleksi, fresh back from Finland, played some great holes including 3 solid pars and a birdie on the front nine to make a Gross 41.

His back nine was not as good but 73 Net is not a bad first game back for the ’Flying Finn’.

Audie, Rizky, Yudi and Emil played together. Audie played mostly bogey golf with a few pars and shot a 73 Net.

Emil played better on the back nine with a respectful 45 Gross but had some bad holes on the front nine.

Rizky also played mostly bogey golf on the front nine but made two birdies on the back nine and Gross 45. Yudi played an average game with 5 pars and mostly bogey golf.

The last group off hole 1 consisted of Yuris, Diana, Jim and Chris.

Yuris generally played well and made  a birdie on hole 12.

His game improved on the second nine with some good pars. Diana can drive really well and she made several good pars but was let down by her short game.

Jim had a consistent round and shot 71 Net. Some of his drives were outstanding and his 2nd shot approach play put him in position for many birdie putts but his putting today often let him down.

Chris played well and shot Gross 42 on the front 9 and went on to finish joint overall winner.

Congratulations to the winners today. First place was shared by Fuad and Chris Net 69.

Second place was shared by Jim, Sari and Aidan, Net 71.
