the day that was 28th August, 2020

Another visit to the Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus designed Emeralda Golf Course. 28 golfers played the River and Plantation Course on a very warm day.

1st flight of Hole#2 on the River Course was Matchplay Team Captain Tarlok, Joshua, Sari and Simon.

Joshua fully kitted out in Liverpool FC merchandise as in full flow from the first shot consistently driving long and straight putting himself in good spots from the fairway.

A few loose shots from fairway restricted what may have been a great round, and the highlight being nearly chipping in from 80 ft on the Hole#7 on the Plantation Course, having played his third JAWS game he has now earned his official JAWS Club handicap, welcome onboard Joshua.

Tarlok looking slim and trim as usual and smiling for 18 holes was also very strong off the Tee making the most of Emeralda finely cut and fast rolling fairways for maximum distance. Despite strong ball striking Tarlok was somewhat let down on the fast greens and struggled to judge the pace on a few occasions but a solid game nonetheless. Sari, the ever present loyal lady amongst the JAWS social golfers enjoyed the sunshine and the blue skies.

Simon, returning to one of his favourite courses, is always excited to play this Championship Course layout and is a huge fan of the palm lined fairways on the Plantation Course. The course is well set-up for his strengths: solid Driving from the tee, and very tidy short game around the greens and in greenside bunkers. This formula proved successful as he returned to the money with a solid Best Nett 2 with a Nett 72 and 78 Gross.

Aidan, Fuad, Salmar and Febian played in the same flight. There were a great deal of nerves from Fuad and Aidan playing Matchplay. The game was close all the way to the 16th but Aidan managed to come off on top with a Net 74 and his long driving gave him the edge. Well done to both players. Meanwhile Salmar played well on the River Course with a Gross 43 and made 6 pars in his round. Febian found the course challenging but made two excellent pars on the par 3 holes.

Second flight off Hole#2 started with only Harry Taufik and Randy, Parman and Aldi joined on Hole 3.Harri Taufik started well with a birdie on hole  #2, but on the first nine he got two triple bogeys and Gross 43.

On the back nine he also played mostly bogey golf  and finished with Net 77.Randy managed to play stable consistent golf except for a few putts, in future if he can show more confidence on the putting green, he could score much lower. He shot a Net 74. Parman made many double bogeys on the front nine but  his game improved in the second nine with 3 pars and many other close pars.

Aldi had great accuracy to make 3 birdies on holes, #8 River , #2 and # 8 Plantation. However his short game often let him down and he made four triple bogeys and Gross 87.

Chris, Laurie, Ivan and Vijay played in the same flight. Laurie stated well with a par on hole 1 of the River Course and then made two excellent pars on holes 5 and 6.

His back nine was not as good as his first nine but finished with Net 77. Both Chris and Vijay started badly with both players making a double par on the first hole.

Chris played well after that and made 6 pars in his round whilst Vijay played more consistently apart from a few triples.

Ivan started off conservatabily, hitting a five iron off the tee instead of his driver.

He made a birdie on hole 8 River and shot Gross 42 on the Plantation course helped by some very long drives.

Yudi, Satya, Rizky and Fitrat all played together and the group played some super golf with Fitrat winning overall and Yudi and Satya taking 2nd place overall.

Fitrat shot 38 Gross on the River Course and 38 Gross on the Plantation course to record a total Gross of 76- Impressive!

Satya was not far behind with a Gross of 78, 39 on both nines. Yudi shot a net 72 and played particularly well on the River Course with a Gross 41.

Unfortunately Ritzy did not complete his round and had to leave early due to family matters.

Emerelda’s infamous midday heat was not enough to slow down Aleksi, Divya, Pras and John.  Starting on River 3, all smashed their drives forward teaming with optimism for a day with nothing but pars and whiskey.

Aleksi’s drive was, as always, long but found the right side slope leading to impenetrable forest.   Not a problem for the Fab Fin who smashed his penalty shot onto the green and one-putted for the par.

Pras, our new shark on the reef, showed up with great form, great drives and a bottle of Gentleman Jack.

All four were tense on the greens until Divya’s phone rant on the 8th green (nothing to do with golf) resulted in levity needed for better putting.

An amazing amount of laughter was the highlight of the day with two birdies and a par on the 17th hole a close second.

Srinivas, Arief, Yuris and Sakti played in the same group. Srinivas played well all day and went on to record a Net 72, 2nd place overall.

Arief had a contrasting day. He played very well on the River course including 2 birdies and Gross 39 but found the Plantation Course much tougher. Sakti and Yuris were playing for their handicaps and both found the course tough with mostly bogey and double bogey golf.

Congratulations to the winners today.

First place was Fitrat, Net 71 takes home the JAWS GOLD MEDAL.

Second place was shared by Satya, Simon, Yudi and Srinivas with Net 72.
