the day that was 1st September, 2020

Perfect weather and good conditions greeted the 28 golfers on another visit to the challenging Permata Sentul Golf Course.

Another big matchplay in our group between experienced Willi G and long hitting Bayu. Bayu had a horrible start and was quickly down 4.

Willi then played safely at 93 and squeezed a 2/1 victory over Bayu and his 87.

Ruth who played 45 holes Friday and 18 holes on Saturday had a tough time getting in gear despite some great drives. She should be healed and stronger in the next event. Fernando was unbelievably lucky on a few holes and shot an 80 with 3 birdies.

Few drives in the fairway but great recoveries.

Fitrat , Yudi, Arief and Fuad played together.

Arief had a matchplay v Yudi. Yudi had 4 pars consecutively on holes 6, 7, 8 and 9 to put Arief under pressure but Arief fought back and had pars on 10, 11 and 12.

A very close match was won on the back 9 with Arief playing more consistently and winning a tough match. Well done! Fitrat and Fuad were onlookers and both played relaxed golf. Fitrat shot the best Gross of the day with 77 and Fuad shot a Net 73, 1 over his handicap.

Hari Taufik and Aleksi played a practise round against Giles and Chris in preparation for the real event this Saturday against the DOGS. The first three holes were drawn and the match was a close battle up to the last few holes. Giles was hitting his driver 300m plus but sometimes was let down by his approach shots whilst Chris played steady golf and close to his handicap. Giles made a birdie on hole 18 and Chris  made a birdie on hole 15.

Hari played very steady golf throughout and an excellent 42 Gross on the front nine. He had some excellent recovery shots and will be an asset against the DOGS.

Aleksi took a little time to get going but showed what he is capable of with some very good pars and he can compete with best when he gets it right.

Overall a fun day and hopefully some wisdom gained by the players. Giles and Chris won the match 2 and 1.

It was a nice warm day for this 4 ball Dea, Nick , Yuris and Divya. Dea showed her class with precision drives and iron play to play a gross 77 whilst Yuris and Divya struggled for form on the first few holes.

Nick recovered with 2 birdies but also had a few blowouts to even out his day.

By the back 9 Yuris was in form making par after par with the odd bogie , he looks to be on the way for a lower handicap , well played Yuris.

Divya also rediscovered his long hitting but a bit too late with booming drives on 2 par 5s with only an iron left for the second shot but was unable to convert both for birdies.

Teeing off first flight off Hole 1 was Team Black of Satya and Sari Vs Team Red Simon and Aidan.

Simon and Aidan took the opportunity to make the most of the practice round to get used to the golf course and it’s conditions in time for the duel against the DOGS on Saturday. Aidan and Simon games compliment each other well, Aidan always aggressive off the tee and Simon always looking to club down and keep the ball in play on PSPs tight fairways. PSPs small and fast greens are difficult to navigate to from the rough.

Satya playing off a low handicap on par with Simon teaming up with Sari who had the advantage of 21 strokes kept Team Red on their toes. The match was close from hole 1 and with the game AS on the 17th it came down to the 18th hole.

The Par 5 18th required a solid tee shot and a solid drive from Aidan put team Red in command as Simon a little wild found a free drop after blocking out right and ball rolling onto the car path. Aidan’s second shot from 210m was struck well with a hybrid and was on the green putting for eagle.

Satya’s drive found a nasty lie just above the fairway bunker on the lip. Simon layed up with a 7 iron leaving a gap wedge on from 90m. The wedge was struck clean to 6 ft and after an uncharacteristic Aidan 3 putt par, Simon putted in for a birdie to take the hole and the game 1up.

This flight were  all Indonesian golfers, : Agus Purwantoro # 26, Afandy Zulkarnain # 26, Sakti Wahyudana #18 and  Firmansyah Apryadhi #16 playing together for the first time but they had a FUN round with lots of jokes.

The group started hole hole 2. Firmansyah was outdriving Sakti, Affandy and Agus and played well on the front 9 with a Gross 41 and birdie on hole 8.

He finally managed to finish in joint 4th place. Agus played his best round so far and went on to finish 2nd overall with a Net 71 whilst Afandy found the course difficult. Sakti played just 3-over his handicap and made several good pars.

Tarlok played quite well as a practise game for the upcoming JAWS v DOGS event apart from finding the greens a little tricky. Ronald Molenaar, at the start of the game, had a little trouble with the driver,  but after playing a few holes, he returned to his natural relaxed style of play.

Diana Budiarti played very well, nothing affected her, she played her best game yet. She hit straight tee-offs with good power, accurate second shots.

Excellent round ! Parman played in a relaxed manner, he played and trained on the new course.  He found the greens quite challenging but the experience will help him in the match against the DOGS.

Congratulations to the winners today.

First place was Fernando, 68 Net.

Second place was Agus, 71 Net.

Third place was Fitrat, 72 Net and 4th place was shared by Arief, Firman, Chris and Diana, 73 Net ( must also confess say there was a miscalculation from scorers here as Ms Diana played way better and was scored higher).
