the day that was 18th September, 2020

Jagorawi Old Course, set in a tropical jungle setting, proved to be a challenge to most golfers on a warm day.. The course was in perfect condition and the 29 golfers enjoyed a fun Friday afternoon’s round of golf.

Second Flight off Hole 3: Ridwan, Marcello, Rikki and Simon, a warm welcome to Ridwan and his Mercedes Benz Indonesia crew who came to experience a JAWs Day out of social golf.

The players faced a Jagorawi Old Course with very fast greens setup fit for a major championship.

Ridwan started off very well making par on the first 3 holes and later in the round birdieing hole 12 after knocking his approach to 6 feet.

He produced  very straight drives all day and when missing the green chipping and putting was on hand to save any big numbers resulting in a Nett 71 and tied Best Nett 1.

Marcello showed signs of his 14 handicap talent but clear signs of rust as tee- offs were a little wayward. Putting was very solid on some very fast greens. Overall scoring respectively whilst having fun. Rikki the highest of the handicaps new to the game of golf, with just two years of experience.

His game is showing huge signs of potential with a very strong game off the tee and some fearless drives today on some very tight and demanding holes things are looking good. Simon was steady, with several trademark pars getting up and down from around the green. The highlight being on the Par 3 Hole 11, after knocking a crisp 5 iron 160m into the wind, a little short off the green. A well struck crisp sand wedge grazed the hole for a solid par. Some wayward 3 woods off the tee on the tight par 4s led to too many shots given away.

Starting on hole 4, Laurie, Chris, Aleksi and Nick played together.

With 3 players hitting the tree on the first hole, this was a sign of things to come and the challenge of the course ahead.

This group consisted of two long drivers and there were many ‘booming’ drives on the day but the jungle was greedy today and was sucking in balls for pleasure. This was the case with Nick who made two birdies and five pars but several double pars. His back nine was respectful with a Gross 43.

Aleksi was also playing some good golf at times but again made several double pars to dent his overall score. He did find some good form at one stage with four pars in a row.

Meanwhile both Chris and Laurie struggled and the course got the better of them today with both players scoring unusually high scores. The  greens often proved challenging to all players and 3 putts was not uncommon.

The thought of Jagorawi’s Old Course can instill fear in even the most hardened JAWS Player. Jens, Paul, John and Parman (aka The Par Man) started off on the fifth hole full of bravery, optimism and plenty of extra balls in their golf bags.

Jens had some miraculous second shots and crushed his self-proclaimed “angry drives” which came about after finding too many white stakes.

Paul was making fantastic recovery shots all day and chipping tight to the pin for his par putts but the Old Course evil greens were not always accommodating.

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to The Par Man who was middle fairway in just about every drive he made.

Unfortunately the greens were unkind with too many putts rolling past the pin. John’s proudest accomplishment of the day was only losing one ball the entire day.

A new record for him at the Old Course.

The day started on the 5th hole .William, Jim and 2 newcomers Chris  and Thomas.

William started off strong and driving almost every fairway on the front 9. The back nine was a different story. But he kept it together to finish in the top 4 scores.

Chris started off our 1st hole making a 40 foot chip shot and a 30 foot putt on the 2nd hole. Thomas and Chris both enjoyed their rounds as they both struggled with the tough course.

Jim seemed to play an average game until a couple of Jagorawi’s greens started to act up and refused him to hole a ball.

The greens just took him down. Overall a good day out with pleasant company on a challenging course.

Bobby, Hary Taufik, Yuris and Arum Nanwani played together and started on hole #1 of the Old Course.

They wanted to have a fun round  but all of them got into trouble especially on the greens and hence so many putts made the scores higher than the norm.

However Bobby and Yuris managed to get birdies which was a sort of consolation . Hari Taufik despite making some good pars struggled on the par 5, 9th hole  with a triple whilst Arun played well on the front 9 but found the back 9 tougher.

Subash-Bob, Ola, Pras and Diana played together. They started on hole one which can be an intimidating hole and it proved to be the case as Diana was the only one to get a decent score with a bogie.

Although Subash had a sluggish start he soon recovered and started to play well and made 6 pars and a birdie on hole 16 and a Net 71 to take overall joint first place. After a good start, Diana soon found the greens and course tough apart from the par 3’s where she managed two pars.

Both Pras and Ola struggled with the challenging course. Ola’s highlights were 3 pars on the par threes and a birdie on hole 16 whilst Pras best holes were the par 5 holes where he managed three pars.

The last minute addition of Joshua made this group even more exciting with Joseph , Randy , Arief , Joshua and Divya.

Joshua started with vigour but the toll of playing also a round in the morning got to him and his game collapsed on the back 9.

Randy, always the mentally strong precision player, played well for 16 holes but then had a blow out on the 17th hole with 6 plus putts and 3 short chips on the par 5.

Arief played consistent golf with the odd bad shot but made some excellent recoveries. Joseph, a veteran at the old course, had a bad start but  recovered by the 14th hole birdieing the 15th and made pars on the next two holes.

Divya started badly on the first 4 holes and then went on recovery mode only to be outdone with a double par on the 18th green with 5 putts. All in all, a day full of laughs with mates and precision golf – a la ‘Winged Foot’ US open style greens and precision iron play needed for the old course !!!!

Congratulations to the winners today.
