the day that was 16th October, 2020

Another visit to the stunning Graham March designed Bogor Raya GC course was rewarded with some perfect weather for the nine select golfers and good playing conditions. With a high number of sharks traveling to Bali , Bandung , some other other shores and some stuck at work it was a relatively moderate turnout of 3 mad flights.

An almost empty course. Partially cloudy with a slight breeze. It was perfect conditions for a relaxing round of Bogor Raya golf.  What could possibly go wrong?

As Bob Hope infamously put it, “if you think golf is a relaxing game, you’re not playing it right.” It was a mixed day for Supachai, Ronald and John.

Both Ronald and John struggled keeping it on the fairways. Ronald managed beautiful recovery shots and was pretty solid on the greens.

John played his worst round of the year and was thankful for beer and good company.

Supachai’s game was close to flawless, putting him at top of the leaderboard for the day. He constantly hit the fairways and chipped tight to the pins.  Another fun Jaws round and a great day to finish the week.

First flight off number one was Pras accompanied by admins and friends Divya and Simon.

The flight set off to a good pace and tempo on an unusually quiet course. What the flight lacked in birdies it was more than made up for with good banter and quality music generously supplied by Pras and his iPhone.

Pras, gaming a new set of irons and driver, clearly will need a few rounds to fine tune his ball striking and lacked consistency but will be walking into his next round in good spirits after a good drive and a solid hybrid set up a birdie putt and a solid or on hole 18, the courses Index one. It’s not how you start it’s how you finish.

Divya, drove the ball long, all day long and was left with short irons into the greens, unfortunately his pitching let him down from 50 yards from the green.

Nonetheless several long drives and an amazing 4 iron which rode the wind 200m and ended 12ft from the pin for a birdie putt on the long Par 3 Hole 15 was the highlight.

Simon started off playing his normal game of long drives and attacked the par 5’s, hole 1 the par 5 was driver then 3 wood, followed by a short chip setting up a 9ft birdie putt.

The following putt grazed the hole which was the story of the day, on what could have been a round 5-6 strokes lighter. As a 6 handicap, there were not enough greens in regulation which led to too much scrambling and pressure on the wedge and putter. Overall a great day out, in good company played in good spirit.

The threesome of Chris, Yuris and Febian started on hole one. Yuris started badly and continued his poor form throughout the round apart from the odd par. He did generally improve on the back nine with some solid drives.

Chris started  well with a par on the first hole but a poor double par on the par 3 hole dented his confidence especially with his iron play.

His long game was good but too many three putts cost him. Febian was in a jolly mood all day and drove the ball well off the tee but struggled with his short game.

He finished with 76 Net but could have scored much lower. The group had fun despite some inconsistent golf.

Congratulations to the winners

In first place was Supachai, Net 72.
