“Golf is about how well you accept, respond to, and score with your misses much more so then it is game of your perfect shots.” — Dr. Bob Rotella
18 JAWS Golfers headed West to Modernland and to multiple Britsih Open Winner, Peter Thomson’s 18 Hole Layout: Modern Golf and Country Club. Being the first JAWS Tuesday AM split tee time event, the feedback allround from the early birds suggests the 630 am tee time has been very well recieved by the players as we look forward to hosting many more 630 am Tuesday tee times going forward. The JAWS Admin team ensures, the Golf Course locations for Tuesday’s will be stratigically selected for a Golf Course closer to the Jakarta’s CBD to allow player’s to return and be back in the city for their afternoon appointments.
Flying the flag for the first JAWS 6:30 Tuesday am tee time were: Lok, Simon, Albert and Will Adrian. This fourball must have had their brekkie as 3 of the 4 players appeared in the winners money including a record breaking BEST NETT WINNER.
Lok, was solid from his first tee off, demonstrating a game of golf that we could all learn from, not overly long but nearly always in the fairway. Lok played at a good pace and never delayed or hesitated in choosing his shot or making decisions, when missing greens, he demonstrated a fine wedge play effortlessly making pars whilst scrambling. Lok finished with a Gross 76, Nett 72 for Best Nett 5.
Simon was also solid from the first shot, playing to his strengths of hitting fairway’s and green’s. The highlight of his round was on Hole #16, the Par 4, he struck his opening drive around 250m centre fairway leaving around 100m into Modern’s smallest green. His gap wedge was a meter short and he was left with a 25 ft texas wedge to the front pin. He struck his putt with conviction from just off the green one grip left as it up onto the green released towards the hole and in for a birdie. Simon finished with a gross 77 and net 71 for best nett 4.
Albert was a little slow to get going, perhaps the earlier then normal tee off being a factor as he recorded a back nine nearly 10 shots better then the front. Opting for a single-plane setup, combined with great strength from years of dragon boat racing, Albert swings hard and fast and a well connected shot gets remarkable distance like his 180m 7 irons often leaving his playing partner’s in awe. As the round progressed and his swing slowed down to more of a controlled manner, the centre of the club was found more consistently hence the lower score.
The star of this flight was Will Adrian who shot the round of his life. Having previously not yet broken 100 in a JAWS game, he went on to break 100 then 90 in the same round. On one of those days when everything fell into place, and you know you are having a good day when you record 3 nett eagles! As the round progressed Will’s confidence was growing evidently, striking his Driver and Irons with authority. After recording a career best 43 on the front he went one better shooting a 42 on the front, his best score to date by some margin for a nett 58. On days like this, we should stop and remember the PGA Tour’s motto that: Anything’s Possible!
The flight finished at 1045am, and had good fun playing a mini fourball format amongst one another, the team of the player partnering Will won convincingly!
The Fourball ball at an overcast and a cloudy day at the Modern Golf course was that of Indar D, Willi G, Gaurav S. and Willie N, one of two 6:30 am flights.
This was the first time that the Jaws Group was teeing off at 6.30 am, the weather seemed absolutely perfect at the start and stayed the same throughout the 18 holes.
The fourball started on Hole 10, Gaurav’s first tee off shot found water on the left and then on all his tee shots for the next 3 holes found water and it looked like it would be a bad day for him but he turned it around with 8 Pars, 1 Birdie and 1 Eagle on the 5th hole Par 5 that he missed for an Albatross by just half a yard. Even though he started badly, he finished the rest of his round beautifully and was the star of the flight. Never give up!
Indar, Willi G and Willie N, had a mixed round of Golf with some good holes and some very mediocre Golf shots on the other holes resulting in double and Triple bogies. The highlight of Indar’s round was the birdie on a Par 3 that missed the hole in one by a yard. All the 4 boys finished their round with a Nett score around their Handicap.
The group took some pictures along the way and had good fun.
Richard, Ruth and Chris played in the same flight starting on hole 10, teeing off at 8:00am. The theme for this group was ‘Bogey’ golf, unfortunately NOT ‘Boogie-Woogie’ golf which would have made for a funky round. Richard started with 2 pars but then had 7 bogies in a row. He started off well again on holes 1-9 with 3 pars and a bogie but struggled with his irons today in general yet made some excellent drives.
Ruth despite making several good pars had too many triples today to affect the leaders. She drove the ball well all day but was often let down by her short game.
Chris played a steady round and was hitting most fairways. He also played mostly bogey golf but would have scored lower if he had chipped better and avoided several bunkers. With good playing conditions, the 3 players managed a relatively quick round of golf and had some good banter.
The 1st group off of hole no. 10 at Modern was the 3 ball of: Divya, Jim and Bram. First to play would be Divya. He was there to play, and his chipping would be the highlight of his game. He played a well rounded game with 7 pars for the day and gross score of 43 and 44 and a net score of 76.
Following him would be Bram. He is a long hitter, but this long hitter had a rough time finding the fairways. He would score a 44 on the front nine, but had a few tough holes on the back scoring a 50. Bram had 4 pars and 1 well deserved birdie.
Last of the group was Jim. Playing one of his best front nines with a score of 44 and 5 pars. He would fall a part on the back 9, With another 2 pars but scoring a 54 for a gross of 98 and a net of 77. Good conditions, good weather and good friends. A great day at Modern GCC.
The four-ball of Pras, Yasin, James and Joe was the last flight to tee off at 8:00 am. Pras was playing a very up-and-down round. He had 5 chances for birdies but could not make any of them. He also had a few blow up holes that prevented him from having a good score. He finished with a nett 76.
Yasin had a very consitent round filled with very accurate shots. He managed to score 5 pars on the way to finishing with a nett 68 and second place for the day.
James had a rough day on the course. Plenty of his shots were very scattered, he even scored 3 triple-bogeys. A very uncommon sight for the 12 handicapper. James finished the day with a nett score of 77. Joe also had an up-and-down round. He hit some beautiful drives but a number of his second shots were either mis-hit or landed in an area that affected his path to the pin. There were also a few instances where he had difficulties getting out of a few fairway bunkers. Joe finished with nett score of 77.
Congratulations to the Winners:
- Will Adrian – Nett 58
- Yasin – Nett 68
- Indar Dhaliwal – Nett 70
- Simon Reynolds – Nett 71
- Gaurav Shirke & Lok Budianto – Nett 72
