Cloudy with a chance of birdies @Cengkareng Golf Club, Thursday 12pm, April 1st 2021
“The secret of golf is to turn three shots into two.”
— Bobby Jones
28 JAWS Golfers kicked off their Easter Sunday long weekend a little early with a 12pm Tee off at Cengkareng Golf Club a stones throw from the Airport, for 18 holes walking on one of the most pleasurable 18 hole layouts in Jakarta, combined with their great caddies, friendly clubhouse staff and the drinks at Mulligan’s Bar, the venue is always a winner! The course has clearly recovered from the heavy rains as the course was in immaculate condition with the greens returning to some of the truest and best rolling putting surfaces in the Jakarta region.
The game at Cengkareng marked the opening of the JAWS Hammerhead Cup 2021 #1 Best Nett event for the next 3 months, where JAWS players will play for the Best Nett 1,2 & 3 over the period based on their average nett score from their lowest 6 nett scores over the period.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN POSTING PHOTOS OF THE EVENT. MAKE SURE THAT THEY REMAIN TACTFUL AND APPROPRIATE FOR ALL OUR MEMBERS.

First Flight off Hole #1 were Dea, Richard, Tarlok and Riche.
The flight was a little uneventful… Just in awe of Dea’s the Golf Pro’s capabilities and ball striking. Dea really could have shot well below par, as all parts of her game were in sync on the day. Wonderful swing and tempo. Only the men’s best drives were her length, as Dea teed it up beside the Men on the Blue Tees. All three gentlemen stumbled at times, with Richard recording a triple bogey 7 on the second and Tarlok a hefty 10 on number 5. A real struggle in comparison to the automatic Iron play of Byron (Dea) who continued to smack it down the middle and hit greens. Tarlok did raise a possible rules infraction on number 18 which most people do but are unaware that is against the rules. While in the bushes he performed practice swings and leaves were flying everywhere. This is actually a 1 shot penalty. He wasn’t penalized, But since he did raise it I informed that in such a situation skip the practice swing to avoid any potential dispute. That’s the best way to avoid being penalized 1 shot. Practice swinging in the woods, bushes and woods is always risky. Riche played a steady game of pars and bogey’s to shoot a nett 72 under the radar.

Second flight off Hole#1 were Subash, Kristyawan, Priyaji and Ola.
Ola was off to a slow start and took awhile to get going, Kristyawan struggled throughout the game to tee off consistently where he had to play catch-up. Priyaji was driving well all day and consistently hitting GIR, but his putting and one double par were an unwelcome blemish on an otherwise tidy scorecard. Ola was in for a fun and relaxed game and his game gradually improved as he got hydrated with a few cold beers. Subash showed his ability to improve throughout the game, especially playing great golf on the second half. Like Ola, Subash’s abilities improved after couple of cans of hydration. Never under estimate the power of refreshment’s folks!

The third Fourball ball from Hole#1 at Cengkareng were: Willi G, Gaurav S., Srinivas M and Willie N.
Willie N started on hot form, narrowly missing his birdie on Hole#1 after being 3 on the green and facing a short 2 yard putt. He quickly put it behind him and went on a roll with birdies on hole 2 and 3. Some very consistent Golf throughout his round helped him win the Jaws Best Nett 1 as well. with a Nett 69. Gaurav was his usual self with some excellent holes on the back nine and some not so good ones in the front but eventually it evened out and he played his handicap a Nett 72. Willi G had an off day and was erratic througout his round and ended up playeing 6 over his handicap with a Nett 78. Srinivas had a mixed day with some very long drives and some very mediocre putts leaving him with a nett 77. The group took some pictures along the way and had good fun.

The final flight off Hole#1 witnessed ‘The Clash of the Titans’ or ‘The Clash of the Sharks’. After a slight delay at the start, Divya played really well with 3 pars in a row whilst Firman was struggling to get his game together. By the 9th hole Divya was 2 up and looking unbeatable with a Gross 39 including 7 pars. But there were signs that Firman was getting his act together shooting just one over for the last 3 holes. The game turned around on the back nine with Firman winning the next 3 holes including birdie on hole 11. Hole 15 turned out to be a crucial hole with both players getting bogey but Firman had a stroke advantage. Firman then made an amazing shot from a bunker on hole 16 to make a par and win the match. Credit to both payers for an outstanding match and a pity that one person had to lose today. Meanwhile Mr Agus, after some help, managed to play his best 9 holes with JAWS improving 10 strokes on the back 9 including 2 pars and 2 bogies and if he can continue this in the next game, he will be fighting for the prizes. Too many triples today for Chris who is struggling with his driver and needs to get his confidence back soon. A trip to the driving range is what the doctor has prescribed for him. But today was about a great matchplay and a fantastic battle between two good players.

The four ball of Pras, Aleksi, Marvin and Jude was the first to tee off from Hole 10 at Cengkareng on the day. The group was filled with laughs and frustration as all four golfers had their fair share of ups and downs. Aleksi was struggling on the front 9 as many of his shots were very inconsistent but he managed to keep it together in the back 9 and finished second in the best nett of the day with a nett 71. Pras’ round was almost the exact opposite of Aleksi’s. He was shooting very well in the front 9. He was only 3 over in the first 8 holes, but he had too many blow ups in the other holes that costed him from scoring better than he did. He managed to finish with a nett 72 and tied for third place. Marvin’s game was the most consistent throughout the day, but alas, there were too many times where he hit it too far and his ball landed out of the safety of the fairways. Marvin managed to finish with a nett 73 and tied for 6th place for the day. Jude, while being the first to score a birdie, could not maintain the momentum he had at the beginning of the round and only managed to finish with a nett 76.
The 2nd foursome off of the 10th tee started with a new comer to Jaws. His name is Heribertus, welocme! Heribertus played a respectable game all round and has a great chip shot. He scored a gross 101 with 2 pars. Then there was Jim, he played an average game hitting very good out of the tee box but he struggled on the greens failing to capitalise on his solid game. There was a match game being played between Mars and Widyanto in the flight. Widyanto trying his best would struggle throughout the day, every time he would make a good shot, Mars would make a better one. Playing a net 83 and making 2 pars. He would go on to loose his match play. Mars started his match game scoring 4 pars 1 boggy and 1 birdie in the first 6 holes. He was on fire 🔥. Mars would go on to win his match game: 6 & 4! Very Solid Mars: Well done.
Rounding up the JAWS game, third flight off Hole #10 were Simon, Marco, Dannis and JAWS newcomer Rendy. Rendy a newbie to the game after a long break from the sport took some time to get warmed up, but after a quick fix by Coach Simon begun hitting some solid drives with his Driver and most notably a very good 3 wood with a soft draw which impressive distance. Dannis, playing off a 28 handicap was also a little hesitant out the blocks but as the round progressed settled into a good rhytmn making bogey’s and doubles with relative ease and two impressive pars. Marco, playing off a 13 handicap demonstrated great strength with his golf swing but needs to work on accuracy and consistency as his ball had a tendency to slice right and get him into some difficult positions on the course leaving him no chance to make pars. Nonetheless with a slower tempo and better balance he managed to reel off a couple of regulation pars on the back nine for much better improvement. Simon’s mind was elsewhere on the first three holes, and was +5 after 3 holes, but thanks to some solid iron play and good putting played the remaining 15 holes in +4 for a mediocre nett 75, on a day where he found it hard to find the fairway, usually his strongest part of his game.
