the day that was: JAWS at Pondok Cabe on 15 June

Tuesday 15th June 2021

You need a fantastic memory in this game to remember the great shots and a very short memory to forget the bad ones”.Mac O’Grady

7 JAWS Sharks travelled to the South of Jakarta to Pondok Cabe Golf besides the Pondok Cabe commercial airfield. With its uber affordable rates of Rp. 300k walking and Rp. 400k with a shared cart the course has developed it reputation for the best value for money golf experience in Jabodetabek combined with a great layout by Aussie Course design team: Thomson, Wolveridge and Perret. The game attracted a surpisingly small turnout, but with the JAWS Bandung gathering approaching many Sharks were keeping their heads down in the office in preparation for the end of week outstation trip come Thursday – Friday.

First Flight off at 8am from Hole #1 were: Emil, Agus and Shlok. Emil started poorly topping his ball off the tee but still managed to get a bogey. Going on to the second hole par 5, he hit his tee off out of bounds. With his provisional ball third shot of 265m going with a 3 wood for the green, his 4th shot was just short of the green and he still managed a bogey. So much for the highlights some gritty scrambling all day to keep level in score with his HC 13, scoring 85 Gross with no birdies! Enough to share some pocket money with Best Nett III.

Then came Agus hitting his opening drive, his tee shot the best amongst the others but he kept on miss hitting his pitches and chip shots with his wedges around the greens. With perseverance he finally got a Par on hole 17th thus carded 105, not too bad for a HC 28.

Last but not least the youngest amongst the Sharks was Shlok; hitting fearless shots all day long. With his young blood give it all 110% on the 1st nine, a little too hard young man. Finally he changed his game play on the next nine and was rewarded with his 1st par on the 10th hole. Little too late and not enough to keep his game steady towards an inflated 106 Gross, nothing some lessons with a Golf professional can’t fix, the passion is clearly there.

The Lesson to be learned on this course… Dont be fooled by the friendly layout. Lots of troubles are hiding both right and left and one should be focussed on making shots towards the middle of the fairway. All in all with the cool and nice weather, All Things ended up in a good mood for the threesome as the walked into the clubhouse after 18.

The Second flight off at 8am from Hole #10 were: Chris, Aidan, Firmansyah and Affandy.  Affandy, also known as AZ, made a good start and was hitting the ball well until he then started to hit the ball to the right and ended with a 9 on hole 9. He then played a steady back 9 and shot a respectful 1 over his handicap but could easily improve with more practise and focus on his short game.

Aidan had a bad start but quickly got into his usual game and started to drive well and long. He made an amazing shot on hole 9. He hit his shot wide but managed to bend his shot around the trees and land on the green.  His back 9 was impressive with a Gross 38 and a birdie on hole 13 and 5 pars. Finishing with a Nett 71 enough for Best Nett II.

Firman played a steady round today and his highlight was a birdie on hole 10. He mostly played par or bogey golf. He drove long all day and ended up with a Nett 72, 3rd place overall shared with Emil.

Meanwhile Chris played well all day apart from a bad start. He made 8 pars for a Gross 86, Nett 67. He was driving well and hitting the greens consistently, the formula for a solid round of Golf. Enough to Nett a 67 and Buy some beers all round with his Best Nett I winnings.

Overall, the group had fun, played quickly on enjoyed the value for money of the course.

Congratulations to the Winners:

  1. Chris L  – Nett 67
  2. Aidan – Nett 71
  3. Firmansyah & Emil  – Nett 72
