12 JAWS Sharks tee’d off at the Peter Thomson designed Modern GCC in West Jakarta on a warm and barmy Tuesday morning. With Ramadhan 10 days in, the players enjoyed a somewhat quiet course with the majority of local/muslim golfers taking a break from Golf or preferring to tee off at 1-1:30pm so they can break fast immediately after their rounds.
The Play:
A warm welcome to Frank Lopon, Aidan’s father who is in Jakarta for a month, we look forward to hosting you for a few more games with JAWS over your holidays. He was quick to mention golf is alot more enjoyable in the tropical heat compared to the UK’s unpredictable weather patterns.
Albert Santos and Emiliano Marcelo both posted a pair of Nett 70’s to take Best Nett. Albert’s game continues to improve thanks to his new arm-lock putter which has knocked several shots of his average scores. Keep it up Albert! Drive for show… Putt for Dough! Emiliano fittingly took home Best Nett 1 on the day the admins presented him with his Hammerhead Cup Trophy for Round #1 2021, where Emil fended off all the other hungry Sharks and Bandits to take home the prize, apologies for the delay Emil, well deserved! Playing good golf over a long period is a model of consistency and determination. No easy feat.
Good to see The Flying Fin: Aleksi Tiihonen back in contention with a solid round where he kept his Driver in play allowing him to go for the greens with his Mizuno blades. At Modern, with its small green platforms hitting your approach shots from the fairway is a huge advantage.
Special mention to West Jakarta, local Lok Budianto, for a cool 78 gross, only 74 nett with a small handicap, nontheless always a good round to break 80 off the blues on any course, well played sir!

A gentle reminder to all JAWS players who are competing in the 2022 Matchplay there are around two and a half weeks left to complete your Round 1 Group stage, matchplay games, in order to avoid any points deductions from forfeitures get those matchplay games lined up and completed at Cengkareng, either during a JAWS fixture or in your own time.
