JAWS @ Rancamaya 22/04/22

24 JAWS Sharks headed up the length of the Jagorawi Toll Road arriving at Rancamaya Golf and Country Club for the Friday noon JAWS game, enjoying the reduced volume of traffic travelling up, during Ramadhan month. The game was Round 1 of a 3 day Rancamaya Golfing Weekender bringing together all three of Jakarta’s popular Golf societies: JAWS, DOGS and Teeset in celebration of social golf whilst raising money for charity, the Fiona Unity Foundation, which raises money for poor, underprivileged and disabled kids in Mataram, Lombok. The JAWS admin team took the initiative to donate all match fees from players to the chosen charity along with hosting a Whisky tasty evening après Golf, thanks to the kind generosity of several players who donated fine whiskies for the players to taste during the event. Rp. 100,000 provided 3 shots of whisky and with the quality of whisky and bourbon available, many players dove deep into their wallets, and had a great time. The fun evening was a great way to kick start the 3-day Golf weekender and Rp. 7 juta was raised for the Fiona Unity Foundation which was carried over to Day 2 and 3 of the remaining Golf weekender. Thanks for all your generosity

The Play:

A warm welcome to our new player: Jackson Fu playing his first social golf games with JAWS, you picked a great course for your first game. We look forward to seeing you more frequently in our weekday golf games.

The Sharks were presented with challenging weather conditions as the morning Sunny weather was blown away by mist and fog which blew down from neighbouring Gunung Salak as the air freshened up after around 9 holes, the cool and fresh moisture brought drizzle and light rain for most of the back nine along with windy conditions, nonetheless our hardy Sharks played on and enjoyed their 18 holes without complaints and revelled in the challenge.

Will Adrian confirmed his status as the Bogor Golf Course Specialist with a Nett 65, his solid round was enough to win by 7 strokes ahead of second place and was presented with a case of San Miguel Beers to celebrate his win. Simon Reynolds, returning to his home course as a kid, where he learnt to play, posted 3 birdies on his way to a Gross 78, Nett 72, which was enough for Best Nett II and the second case of San Miguel beers. Kent Rusli propped up the leaderboard with a Nett 73 to take home Best Nett 3, well played, good score on a tough course in bad weather.

After the game and warm showers, the afternoon progressed in good spirits into the evening’s charity whisky tasting event. Thanks to the generosity of 10 or so of our JAWS members there were some exquisite whisky’s on offer and after one or two whiskies the evening ended in a very merry mood with lots of laughter.
