JAWS @ Jagorawi New Course 28.06.22

10 JAWS Sharks headed up the Jagorawi Toll on a sunny Friday morning, turning off at exit km 24 Karanggan to play Jagorawi Golf & Country Clubs: New Course. Its been sometime since the last game on the NEW COURSE, with many JAWS players preferring the OLD COURSE layout and the New Course also being closed for a long period for course repairs and renovations.

The NEW COURSE was in great nick, and along with the blue skies and sunshine, allowed for a fine Friday morning of social golfing.

A warm welcome back to Johnny Lyle, playing his first game with JAWS having previously joined a JAWS long weekender to Parahyangan, Bandung, over a year ago.

The Play:

The first of the early birds 7am 3 balls were: Stephanie, Subash and Jay.

Stephanie cracked some great drives down the fairways through the jungle all morning but could not resist reminding the boys that they were playing some tees nearly the same as ladies tees, indeed a huge advantage. Her long 40ft putt on hole 1 to save par was a beauty, just like the 50 footers on TV we see on the LPGA. Stephanie posted a sound Nett 75, to take Best Nett III tied, well played Steph!

Yang took some time to get the engine warmed up but even as a high handicapper played pretty fast, keep up the good pace of play Jay! As the flight kept up and were forced to wait often, with the flight of golfing snails up in front.

Subash, fresh from a trip overseas for business and pleasure,  carried his relaxed and languid vibe onto the course and into his golf game. His rhythm was in place, with nothing rushed and his sharp short irons into the greens left him with only short or medium length putts. A good tempo and sound approach shots…. the formula for a good round, as he turned in a nett 68 and comfortably secured Best Nett I for the day.

The second flight of 7 am early birds were: Mi Hwa, Johnny Lyle and Jaws admin Chris Lever. Chris and Mi Hwa both played well on the front 9. Mi Hwa shot Gross 40. She had 6 pars and Chris had 5 pars in a row. The back 9 was a different story for both players as the course took its revenge. Johnny struggled at the start to get his game going especially with his driver. However his game slowly improved as the round progressed and he shot the lowest Gross on the back 9 in the group.

Chris playing with a new weopan off the tee, a Titleist Tsi2 Driver, and he clearly gained some extra yards from his tee offs, leaving himself with closer approach shots into the greens. Chris played a nett 74, to secure Best Nett II. Well played sir!

The last flight, saw Pras, Mars, Jim and Aleksi the Flying Finn playing his last game with JAWS before moving back to Finland. Aleksi who has been playing with JAWS since day one at Matoa on a Tuesday morning in Matoa, way back in 2020, will be missed amongst our community of social golfers. All the best in Finland Aleksi, we hope to see you for some more golf here on the equator.

The flight shared a few drinks during the round to celebrate the occasion, and the tight fairway’s were not forgiving to the scorecards, all except for Jim, who put togther a crafty nett 75 to share Best Nett III with Stephanie. Well played Jim!

Congratulations to the Winners:

Best Nett 1: Subash Adwani // Nett 68

Best Nett 2: Chris Lever // Nett 74

Best Nett 3-Tied: Jim Korbilas & Stephanie Rina // Nett 75

Happy Golfing! Sharks…
