the day that was 1st December 2020

Permata means jewel or gem in Bahasa Indonesia. Tuesday morning’s round at Permata Sentul was a reminder of the international gems that make these JAWS outings so fantastic.  The 14 Sharks that participated represent three continents, a subcontinent and six countries.  A hot day and fast greens made for some gem shots and some lumps of coal with net scores ranging from 70 to 89.  A big thanks to all who came out and, as always, made it a great day.

What do you get when you group a Swede, a Fin, an Indian and an American?  Erik, Aleksi, Rohit and John found that the answer is lots of laughter, good music and swearing in multiple languages.

Erik the Viking started off hot with a birdie on the first hole.  He was great off the tee and made some huge putts finishing 2nd on the JAWS Leaderboard.  Unusual for his game, Aleksi the Mad Fin struggled off the tees.  When he hit them true they were long and beautiful but not enough to keep him in contention.  Rohit started off with a par (just missing the birdie) and was strong off the tees but had big struggles on the greens.  John was consistent off the tees and on the fairways but was a disaster on the approach.  A very fun day with lots of stories on the 19th hole.

Starting on hole 12 were Agus, Chris and Widyanto. With no one in front and blue skies above, the threesome raced around the course in just over four hours and patiently waited for the other groups to complete their rounds.

Agus made a par on hole 15 and drove the ball well but struggled with his second shot in general and made too many triples despite playing with a smile on his face. Widyanto drove the ball well all day and improved on the back nine with a respectful Gross 45 and made some great pars. Improvements with his approach shots would have made his score much lower.

Chris played well on the front nine with a Gross 42 but a few wayward shots on the back nine cost him but he finished with a Net 72.

Overall a quick and fun round of golf on a beautiful day and clear views of the surrounding countryside.

Pras, Randy, Jim, and Yuris teed off together from the 10th hole. Jim was having a great day of putting that resulted in an uphill birdie putt from over 30 feet away.

Randy was having trouble off the tees but always managed to scramble well in his short game. Pras was hitting bombs off the tee but he kept finding difficulties everywhere else. Yuris was also having a bad day on the course.

The greens, while giving all four a true test of their putting skills, were especially sinister to Yuris from beginning to end.

A great day out at the beautiful Permata Sentul for Fitrat, Yudi , Iris and Divya.

All four had a whirlwind day with the average nett scores of the group being in the early 80’s but was full of laughs and the odd birdie by Fitrat followed by pars by Iris and a double par on a par 5 by divya !! Yudi not to be left behind followed it up with his double par promptly on the next hole.

Finally by hole 15 the group started to pace themselves and were able to recover a bit but alas to late as the train had left the station.  All in all lots of laughs and fun with this mixed crazy group of social Shark golfers.

BIG thank you to the Permata Sentul Team for taking care of us and organizing a successful event.

Whats a Mulligan ?

mulligan is a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder. Its best-known meaning is whereby a player is informally allowed to replay a stroke, even though this is against the formal rules of golf.

Golf is a game for ladies and gentleman, so when one goes for a round of golf be it: social or tournament golf one is required to behave as a lady or a gentleman and abide by golfing etiquette

Yes, JAWS is a golf society promoting camaraderie and fun on the course but abiding by our societies rules of etiquette we can assure you of a much better and valuable golfing experience for your playing partners and yourself.

Not only must we uphold our reputation as a society at golf courses, don’t forget to value your own reputation as a golfer on and off the golf course, after all… we are all gentlemen and ladies who choose to play a ladies and gentlemen’s game.
