the day that was 4th December 2020

William Wallace stood on top of the Scottish Highlands and said “freedom means taking risks and facing at least the possibility of betrayal.”  Well, that’s how the movie goes anyway.  In a similar fashion, Friday afternoon brought eight JAWS Bravehearts to the top of Sentul Highlands knowing full well many risks would be taken and, at least some, betrayal was all but certain.

Dark clouds threatened the initial attack but the sun broke through as both flights began their attack on hole one.  By the 19th hole some were shouting FREEDOM! while others were feeling eviscerated with net scores ranging from 72 to 89.  It was a fantastic day that led to 19th hole food, drinks and great conversation.  A big thanks to all who made the trip up.

No bagpipes but great music and laughter complimented the day for Ardi, Sebastian, Chris and John.  Ardi was driving long and true all day but his short game led to a few blow up holes.  All in all, still a good round for him.

Sebastian’s work on getting his swing going had its ups and downs with troubles keeping it close with on the approach but also found some beautiful drives.  JAWS prediction is that his scores are going to drop precipitously in the coming rounds.

Chris started off slow making more errant shots that normal for his usually consistent game.  One the back 9, he turned it on with a good array of pars and a birdie.  John was good off the tee and not too bad short.  Two of the par 5s gave him a spanking with penalty shots on both but otherwise not a bad day.

The second flight off #1 was Newcomer Wisnu, Antoine, and Jaws admins Pras and Simon. Wisnu’s opening drive was a bomb and he carried on bombing drives all day consistently 260m.  Playing off a 7 handicap his class and pedigree was evident but a few poor putts kept him off the JAWS Leaderboard.

Antoine’s game, like a fine French wine, took some time to develop. Initially he was struggling to find the middle of the club-face. As the round progressed and the sun started to peak through the clouds, a minor adjustment to his swing and his ball was flying longer and straighter as the smile returned to his face. This was Antonie’s second game with JAWs and it was great to see his spirit and passion for the game. Pras was the fastest out of the blocks, and despite finding the fairway bunker, his opening drive signaled his intent. Combined with a new workout regime off the course, Pras was hitting the ball long with his signature baby draw to good effect.

A blow out hole unfortunately knocked his round off course. Simon, chose the wrong course to use a demo driver, and should have stuck to his old dog in the bag. One too many wayward drives found him scrambling from the trees, but his heroic shot from the bushes on hole 11 will never be forgotten, hacking it out with a 9iron from 100m left of the cart path, under a tree, hitting the cart path then rolling down onto the green, followed by a two putt par, a true shark swing.

JAWS SHARKS

The integrity and honesty of how we conduct ourselves in life or in golf is critical

In that spirit , we have some news that affects our last match play.  Although maintaining the correct scores throughout the match lies with the scorer ie: the home team Teeset who were doing the scoring.

The hand written final calculations from the match of Dan / Jude vs Imran / Diana hole by hole was not correct and extremely messy. This resulted in an incorrect calculation of score and finally an incorrect final score on matches.

Teeset were very kind to accept a final draw as 10 / 10 and kudos to them for that

Someone important once said – character is not how we behave when others see us , but how we behave when we are alone and no one is looking this is particularly important in our sport like golf and life.

To answer the question who won the match, both teams did – as a DRAW after reviewing the cards this morning, So final scores are Teeset 10 Jaws 10 points and we agreed to have a rematch asap for the inaugural 2020 matchplay of TEESET vs JAWS

Well played Teeset and well played to all the JAWS team

Rematch details will be advised soon.

For this rematch Captain Tralok Singh and Vice Captain Gaurav Shirke will lead the SHARKS

Going forward for the year 2021 Gaurav Shirke will continue to lead as Vice Captain along with the new 2021 JAWS Captain Simon Reynolds for all JAWS Matchplay events.

Please join us in welcoming Simon & Gaurav in their new Roles

JAWS MULLIGAN CHALLENGE-DECEMBER 18TH, JAGORAWI OLD COURSE

A new unique event will be played by JAWS Sharks in December at Jagorawi on the 18th of December.

Whats a Mulligan ?

mulligan is a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder. Its best-known meaning is whereby a player is informally allowed to replay a stroke, even though this is against the formal rules of golf.

So what is the Mulligan Challenge ?

IMAGINE HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIT EVERY SHOT TWICE

BE IT A DRIVE , IRON , CHIP OR A PUTT ….

CAN YOU THEN PLAY TWICE AS BETTER ?

With this basic format , the JAWS Mulligan Challenge will be played at the Jagorawi Old course on the 18th of December.

BEHAVIOUR AND RULES

Over the last few rounds there has been some chatter over the Rules of Golf and Golf etiquettes

Golf is a game for ladies and gentleman, so when one goes for a round of golf be it: social or tournament golf one is required to behave as a lady or a gentleman and abide by golfing etiquette

Yes, JAWS is a golf society promoting camaraderie and fun on the course but abiding by our societies rules of etiquette we can assure you of a much better and valuable golfing experience for your playing partners and yourself.

Not only must we uphold our reputation as a society at golf courses, don’t forget to value your own reputation as a golfer on and off the golf course, after all… we are all gentlemen and ladies who choose to play a ladies and gentlemen’s game.
