the day that was 15th December 2020

“He that can have patience can have what he will.” – Benjamin Franklin

Despite the Matoa management causing a delay at the start, patience was needed and for some golfers that paid off with some low scores. The weather and conditions for playing golf were good and 18 golfers managed to complete their rounds.

Pras, Aleksi, Jamie and Geoff teed off the first tee together.

Geoff was struggling to keep up with the young sharks, but the grizzled vet showed no sign of backing down from the challenge. Jamie, playing Matoa for the first time, showed signs of confusion with the layout of the course in the beginning.

After 5 holes, he showed why he is a former tour professional. Almost all of his shots were hit like he was competing for a championship. He admitted that he hasn’t played on a golf course for an extended period of time, which is why his putting was not always on point. Aleksi was playing his typical game.

Hitting long and wild to every corner of the golf course, yet as always he always finds his way to the green in time to make a par putt. His chipping and putting were in great form as they helped him to achieve a Nett 69. Pras’ long game was a bit on the unpredictable side. While he was able to occasionally hit his signature long, draw drives, most of his drives were wild to the right. Thankfully his chipping and putting were able to salvage his round as he tied Aleksi with a Nett 69.

It was a great slow but fun round at Matoa. Parman , Divya , Imran and Antoni all started strong .

Parman made some great chips and putts to stay in the fray while first timer Antoni proved how he was a 14 handicapper with consistent play. Imran and Divya were hot and cold but finished strong on the back nine .

A great fun round.

Harii Taufik, Yuris  and Affandy played in the same flight. Taufik made two birdies on the front 9 and played another consistent round.

The Matchplay Champion shot a Gross 82. Meanwhile Yuris still continues to struggle with his game and made too many bogies and triples whilst Affandy,  AZ’s highlight was a par on hole 9 and needs to work on his game.

Audie, Ruth and Mi Hwa Yoon joined forces to make a trio. Audie played quite well shooting 2 above his handicaps and made several good pars.

Ruth played well on holes 1-9 with a Gross 46 but could not keep this up on holes 10 to 18 with a few blow out holes. Mi Hwa Yoon continues to improve and made a Gross 42 on holes 10-18 and some very good pars.

Newcomer Mark played with Willi, Gaurav and Fernando.

A steady Gross 44 on the front nine was matched with another Gross 44 on the back for Mark and a solid opening round with JAWS. Gaurav despite making a triple, played well and shot a Gross 83 and his handicap including nine pars.

Fernando made 8 pars and shot a respectful 43 on the front nine but a few doubles cost him. Meanwhile Matchplay Runner Up, Willi G had an off day especially on holes 10-18 and recorded a high score. Maybe the slow play had an effect on his game or his mind was on other things?

Congratulations to the winners

1. Pras and Aleksi, joint winners, Nett 69

3, Divya, Hari Taufik and  Gaurav, tied for  3rd place, Nett 72.

BEHAVIOUR AND RULES

Over the last few rounds there has been some chatter over the Rules of Golf and Golf etiquettes

Golf is a game for ladies and gentleman, so when one goes for a round of golf be it: social or tournament golf one is required to behave as a lady or a gentleman and abide by golfing etiquette

Yes, JAWS is a golf society promoting camaraderie and fun on the course but abiding by our societies rules of etiquette we can assure you of a much better and valuable golfing experience for your playing partners and yourself.

Not only must we uphold our reputation as a society at golf courses, don’t forget to value your own reputation as a golfer on and off the golf course, after all… we are all gentlemen and ladies who choose to play a ladies and gentlemen’s game.
