10 JAWS Sharks tee’d off at Gading Raya on a sunny Friday noon tee time, on the first day of the Lebaran ‘Cuti Bersama’ Holiday period. Our concerns were for a packed and slow round but our patience and optimism was rewarded with a Gading Course in mint condition and 18 holes in 4hrs 30 mins for our 3 flights playing on the day.
The Play:
A warm welcome back to Naresh Krishnan, who played with us the first ever JAWS game that was held at Modern in 2020, great to see you again Naresh, it’s been too long.
Nick Goodwin joined us for a second 18 loop after playing in the morning ISCO charity game where he posted an impressive 76 gross, and tee’d off 15 mins after finishing his 18th Hole after a quick takeway sandwich out on course. Nick openly invites all JAWS players to come and visit him for a game at Merapi Golf, Jogja a hint to us admins to arrange an outstation trip to play there.
Jim Korbilas brought his A-game out for the day, posting a solid nett 73 enough for Best Nett III: JAWS admin Jim was chuffed to bring home some pocket money and get on the leaderboard and is a huge fan of the course layout at Gading, well played sir!
Welcome back to JAWS 2021 MP Champion: Hari Tian, who has been missing in action for a few weeks, busy with work preparing for the Lebaran Holiday period. Despite a long absence at JAWS, the game is still sharp posting a nett 72 enough for Best Nett II.
The round of the day was played by Bobby ‘the banker’ Cangkrama, with the editor playing in the same flight as a witness to his: Best Nett I – it was well deserved with Bobby putting together a great round from tee to green, and getting up and down from some tight spots to safe par on several holes. With his game going from strength to strength, Bobby is tip toeing his way towards a single digit handicap.

With the JAWS 2022 Match play progressing to the knock out stages, congratulations to the 8 JAWS players who have advanced to the quarterfinals. The JAWS admin team conducted the MP Draw for the route to the final after the game at Gading Raya, and the quarterfinals games will be exciting no doubt with a low handicap duel between Lok Budianto and Simon Reynolds for a place in the semis amongst several other exciting duels as we reach the all or nothing knock out stage of the competition. The quarterfinals matches must be played before the deadline of the 27th May 2022.
