11 JAWS Sharks gathered at Cengkareng, on a Tuesday morning for some competitive and fun, social golfing. After a long period of wet weather in Jakarta, the weather was warm and sunny and the course was in great condition despite all the bad weather the previous weeks.
The Play:
A warm welcome back to Marcelo De Jesus, back from his long travels which took him as far as the Swiss Alps, and Davos Golf Club, welcome back Mars. Stephanie was quick to comment that its not very often that we get to play a round of golf with Jesus.
Another welcome back to Priyaji Peiris who has been missing in action for a few months, reportedly busy writing the sequel to his recently published self-help best seller: ‘Fart Out Loud: Make Noise, Break Rules and Get Ahead.’ Keep us posted Priyaji for the next release.
JAWS interleague regulars Emil and Pras fresh from their weekends interleague action both posted a pair of 72 netts, securing best nett III’s, solid golf to shoot your handicap, even at Cengkareng. Pras started his back nine with an eagle, ripping his drive around 300 yards then smoking his 5 iron another 200 yards setting up a 20 ft, right to left eagle putt which he drained, well played Pras. Emil despite being a bit erratic off the tee, hit some solid approach shots, like his 8 iron from 160 yards on the Par 3 Hole #17 to less then 6 ft, which he sunk for a birdie. Nice one Emil.
The lengthy travels have clearly done Mars some good as he posted a tidy nett 70, enough to secure best nett II. Not long off the tee, Mars once again demonstrated a very tidy short game: with his pitching, chipping and putting. Frequently getting up and down, scrambling for pars, turning two shots into one. A clear example of the importance of having a good short game and how it can rapidly reduce your scoring.
Admin Simon, had his best round in some time, shooting 6 birdies, 3 on each nine, to post a 72 gross, nett 67 to secure Best Nett I. Some good greens in regulation stats allowed him many opportunities to putt for birdie, and 27 putts total for the round, he’ll be happy with. Solid off the tee with his driver and fairway woods, was also a contributing factor, allowing him to go for pins and play boldly from good position on the course.

A sad farewell to Aleksi Tiihonen (The Flying Finn), playing his last game with JAWS, one of the society’s longest standing members who has been playing with us since the birth of the JAWS community in 2020. Aleksi was given a fitting farewell from the golfing gods with an eagle of his own on Hole #11, driving the green and ending up just 5 feet from the pin, then kocking in the short putt for eagle, nice one Aleksi. Safe travels back to Finland, it has been a pleasure playing golf with you, and do keep in touch.
A great morning of weekday social golfing and looking we are looking forward to the upcoming Friday morning game at Rainbow Hills, see you there Sharks.
Happy Golfing Sharks!
